data ragarding hardware malfunctions (models S and E)

I'm thinking about buying a new system. I had the first model, but it RROD'd a couple of years ago (not without having me replace the power source first). I didn't even play it that much, which is why I think it might have lived for "so long".

I've been putting this off since it makes me VERY angry to have to pay another 250+ dollars to a company that pretty much just sold an admittedly faulty system (how many RROD cases? percentage of bricked first gen xbox360s?). But since I was not only naive
about buying a failure prone console (I wasn't actually naive, I bought it before RRODs were all over the place and a public known fact, as did many other poor souls), I also invested enough money in games, DLC, and accessories that I "want" to buy a new one
so it's not all gone to waste.

This time, however, I want to get information about known issues with the system. I'm planning on getting the S model, but I'll ask for data on the E model anyway, since that's what's mostly being sold nowadays.

    TL;DR

Is there any data regarding known hardware issues and console-breaking instances percentage for the S and E models?

    Very much appreciate the help

    :)

Sometimes disk get halo scratches if the console gets bumped.

Overheating is been fixed but not entirely.

I cant say for sure about the e but the slim is usually pretty bug free. As long as you dont cover up vents and don keep it in a cabinet it should be fine. Also go for the 250 or 320 gb hdd most newer games require install disk to run properly, it'll quickly
take up space. Iv had a Halo 4 320gb slim for over a year and only had one game get scratch by bumping it. If you install it it should run with light scratches. Hope I helped a little.

No issues with the Slim model I own "halo reach model", maybe the rare freeze every so often when playing a game but other than that no hardware faults at all. My nephews own the E model and that hasn't died on them and they are quite destructive being kids
and all. My girlfriends slim model still works and that is a launch slim. As long as you treat the console right "either model" and don't cover the vents it should be fine.

  6. If you plan on buying a xbox one you should get the E model. They match.

Yep, they certainly do. The new Xbox 360 (E) is just a mini-ONE in terms of its looks.

Its by far the best 360 console so far and that goes for performance wise too.

Mine is so fast! Loads faster than my previous slim (S) model console.

I hope you realise that your RROD Xbox console is guaranteed for 6 years?!

As Microsoft said that its a fault from manufacture youre covered by the Sale of Goods Act 1979.

You should always make an effort to know your basic rights and a bit about the law in the UK.

Now contact Microsoft and get that console repaired or replaced FREE of charge my friend.

Thanks to everyone who's posted so far. To address some of the things you've said:

I bought my previous xbox (the one that broke) back in 2007, I think in January. I did not know about the 6 year guarantee, but also I'm not in the UK (why did you mention the UK specifically, by the way, Daddy Benny?). I do not know if that same 6-year-period
applies to America, and I am also not very clear on how the warranty works for me considering I bought the console in the US, and then brought it over to Costa Rica, where I currently live. Anyway, I'm out of the 6 year thing by now, so no dice either way.

I do not currently plan on buying a xbox one. It's a bit too expensive for me at the moment, and there aren't enough games, plus some other reasons. I also don't really care about it matching my 360 anyway. Performance, on the other hand, is relevant. I
hear the E model is a tad faster, and also more silent. However, the changes (removal) made to the ports in the back has made the S more appealing to me so far. I any of you would like to comment further on comparing both models, please go right ahead.

Daddy Benny, you mentioned you have the E, and previously had the S. Why did you swap them? did the S break?

As much as I appreciate personal comments on your own experience (keep them coming, by all means), what I would like the most is data regarding a wider coverage. What do I mean by this? Some sort of executive resume in the likes of:

-units sold by certain date, hopefully by model

-units/percentage serviced due to hardware malfunctions

-known "kinds" of issues, ranked by amount of instances

Also, I'd like not only to hear about people who've had no issues, but even more so I'd like to hear about people who had problems, so I can see how bad it can get, and how efficient Microsoft is at tending to it.

Sorry about my long posts. Thank you, all!

  10. Iv have had a couple problems.

If you bump it at all it will grind and make a circular scratch around the disk. It happens on all xbox 360s regardless of model. Occassional freeze but this may be game related.

The Xbox e can only accept surround sound from hdmi unlike older xbox models. Also the E has one less usb. Two if front two in back. The s has 3 in back.

There both good the e is a little faster but not much also it doesn't stay much cooler. It feels like a step back by removing some ports.

They both have wi-fi. My Halo 4 slim ( alot of people like the blue leds and Sound effects) is over a year old and running fine. Just avoid any xbox pre slim. My elite rrod 3 time and I had to have a wi-fi adapter. Anything specific you want to know?

  11. @arcerey - I sold my perfectly working S console and bought the E.

I did this puirely because its such a much nicer looking console.

I was unaware that it was going to be a lot more powerful and better running etc.

So that was a bonus to me as I was purely after the looks.

Also the only port that is missing is the optical port (tos-link).

I didn't use that anyway, but you still have audio out port which I do use.

You get a cable with it that uses that port and has red, white and yellow RCA plugs on it.

  12. Not 100 % sure but i think the E model has no hard drive as standard, its only 4gb.

    -

The old red ring issue isn`t fully gone, its now a red dot of death on the slims, but much less likely to happen than on the old versions.
