Data off drive in fried Xbox One

The motherboard in my nephew's Xbox One fried (said the repair man) so is it possible to get the data off the internal drive and put it on an external to be used with his new Xbox One? (Or possibly use the internal drive as an external?)

Recovering downloaded content

I recently had to purchase a new xbox because the old one took a crap and fried the hard drive along with it so all of our downloads are gone so I can't transfer the data to the new one. Does anyone know if it's possible to recover those and if so how?

If the console will no longer turn on, then there would not be a way to transfer the date. If he's been playing online, all of his games saves are automatically saved to the cloud and would automatically download. He can redownload any games and content
as well.

 

There's no way to take the hard drive out and connect it to either a PC or another Xbox?

 

Really? So there's no hope of getting any data off...

 

The hard drive is not meant to be removable from the Xbox One. As such, the data is formatted in a way where it is not at all transferrable through officially documented means. As an Xbox forum rule, we cannot assist you
with anything that goes beyond the warranty seal.

With the way Xbox Live is set up with the cloud, the hard drive should be the least of your worries. So as long as your nephew kept the console connected to the internet (even periodically), all of his saved games are automatically stored in the cloud, and
purchased digital games/DLC are ready to install as soon as he logs in with his account.

 

As was said previously: You don't need to get any data off the drive.

Everything of importance is stored on the Xbox Live online service, and the hard drive is only a temporary storage to speed up the process of not having to download everything every time.

If your nephew goes to any Xbox One in the world and signs in on that console, the console automatically downloads the profile information to that new console. Then he can simply select his games to be downloaded for free again. And as soon as your nephew
starts one of his games, the console also downloads his most recent savegames.

So, every console automatically gets the data off the cloud, so you don't have to get data off the old defective console.
