Dashboard Laggy When Certain Game Is Installed

I posted about this awhile back when I was on a beta dashboard and I didn't know what the problem was caused by. I'm no longer on the beta and I know the cause.

Whenever I have Rock Band 4 installed along with my DLC for the game, my dashboard gets laggy to the point that some games and apps are barely useable. It takes about 15 seconds for the power menu with the guide button to appear, 5 seconds for the guide
to show up at all, the system becomes unusable when installing anything due to constant stuttering, and apps randomly freeze up. If I try to move all my RB4 DLC to internal or vice versa, My Games & Apps freezes. If I try to do a factory reset, Settings freezes.
I managed to factory reset with a file on a USB stick, which solved the problem, until I realized RB4 was the culprit.

If I delete RB4, everything is peachy. However, I've invested A LOT of money into this game. I posted on the official Harmonix forums and nobody else seems to have the issue and they have more DLC than me. I have 900+ DLC packages that I install through
Manage Game (and more that I have to download from the in-game store as they for some reason don't appear under Manage Game, but that's a game issue the developers have already addressed). Without downloading anything from the in-game store though, and just
downloading my ~900 DLC songs through Manage Game, the dashboard starts to slow to a crawl before I'm even half way done, and stays that way until I uninstall it. I've removed ALL other games and apps from the console except for RB4 and the DLC, and the problem
persists. I've tried reinstalling to both internal and external drives, same problem.

I can't think of a remedy, but does anyone here have any advice? I've already tried a cache reset. This is a problem I've been dealing with for several months so I've tried everything. I've invested thousands of dollars into DLC for this game through the
series' history and it pains me that I have to handicap my console in such a way in order to access it. Especially since I'm the only person that seems to have the issue. It's like my Xbox One just can't handle that many DLC packages being installed for one
game.

I have the game installed on to a 16G Sandisk pen drive, lol.

So far it's been fine, the only thing I've noticed is things can get a bit laggy when a Dragon show's up.

The name of the machine doesn't really bother me as long as it does what I want it to. I never really minded about the apps and all that, but recently I've noticed how long the dashboard takes to load and I'm certain it must be because of all the advertisements.

I do have a few games installed to the hdd, but even so when the old dashboard was around and I had games installed it never took so long. Shame that we have to suffer through all the bs when we just want to play games.

 

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this. Perhaps the issue is with storage. With 900+ DLC packages the game can take up quite a bit of room.

Perhaps try adding an external storage device if you are not currently using one. You can use a USB 3.0 device ranging in size from 256GB - 16TB in size for external storage. Hopefully, when added, you can put the game and DLC on that and no longer experience
these slow downs.

 

Well like I said, I initially had the game installed on an external drive. It was a 2TB drive, and I've tried installing it to both internal and external to see if there's a difference between the two and there isn't.

Something I forgot to mention in my first post though: I also tried powering off the console, unplugging the power, unplugging the external drive, and leaving it unplugged for a few minutes. I then plugged the power back in and started up the console WITHOUT
the external drive plugged in that has the game and DLC. It still has the problem. I'm guessing the game and DLC are still technically "installed" or that the console thinks they're installed, it just can't find the drive that has them. So I think it definitely
is an issue with the dashboard going wonky with that many DLC files installed for one game... but it starts acting crazy when I have about 300-400 installed. It must be pretty sensitive.

 

That is definitely odd behaviour and not something I've heard off before. Sorry about missing the external comment by the way.

The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps the issue lies with the console itself. Do you have a friend who has an Xbox One? Are you able to bring the external drive with the game and dlc loaded to their house to see if it has the same effect?

If it doesn't then perhaps the console itself may be in need of a repair.

 

I tried taking it to a friend's house but it looked like it was gonna take hours for all the songs to appear on his console, since it has to load up each item on the hard drive individually, and I just didn't have time. I may need to loan him the drive for
a day or so, so everything can load up and I can try it.

Meanwhile, I know the console works fine with just the base game installed. I'm gonna try installing the DLC in batches to see if there's a certain number of DLC that it hits where it starts *** up, or hopefully, maybe it's just a certain song I'm downloading
that's glitchy and *** everything up. I can probably do without whatever song may be causing the problem.

 

Thanks for letting me know. I know you have a lot of songs (I have about 200 myself). Doing batches is a good idea. It's a way to start whittling them down to try and catch the culprit.
