Darksiders II aspect ratio/graphics stretching

I recently downloaded Darksiders II with this month's gold giveaway and gave it a go yesterday, but I appear to be stricken with a strange problem (I say this because all internet searches failed to bring up even one other example): the aspect ratio seems
for the actual game graphics seems permanently in widescreen. All the menus and button icons are just fine, but the characters, environment, etc - so the actual game - are all squished horizontally. Death looks like a very squat dwarf.

I've tried playing around with the aspect ratio settings for the system itself, but nothing helped. As there doesn't appear to be anything in the way of actual graphic options, I'm not really sure how this issue can be solved, but I figured this is worth trying.
There isn't some secret full-screen version download I've missed, is there?

If it matters, I've downloaded it in Germany.

Changing Aspect Ratio and/or Resolution

21:9 aspect ratio is currently not supported.

You can only get 1920x1080 and set your TV to 16:9 and have black bars on the sides to avoid the stretching your TV will do to the 16:9 signal.

Aspect ratio?

I have been looking up aspect ratio problems since I got my xbox one last week.

The only conclusion I have come to is that the aspect ratio setting on xbox one are incredibly lacking. I'm missing a small portion of screen on the top and bottom and a larger portion on the left and right.

My research had lead me to find that this had been an issue for a lot of people since launch and had yet to be resolved or even mentioned by Microsoft. This is a rather large issue that effects the fundamental appearance of the UI as a whole and should have
been dealt with by now.

Excuse me if this has been fixed, but my xbox software is all up to date.

My television has no setting to alter this. I've been through everything. If I change to do through the xbox one the only added option I get is 640x480 which is useless.

This is an issue effecting a lot of people that can only be resolved in a patch for the system. Not everyone's televisions have these options.

 

Sorry to hear it. Some newer version TV's have an option to switch between widescreen and full screen. Can you check your TV's menu to see if you have an option for that as well?

 

It doesn't, no, though maybe it's also important to mention that I'm playing it via VGA on a monitor - though the issue must be with the software, as the entire UI is fine - button pop-ups and the map are perfect circles, text looks fine - when interacting
with other characters and cutscenes. It's really *only* the actual 3D modeling/rendering that's the wrong aspect ratio.

 

It may be an issue with the monitor then. Are you able to connect the console to a regular TV just for scientific purposes?
