  1. Dark Souls vs Dark Souls two

I downloaded Dark Souls for free and it's by far the best free game xbox live has put out imo. Dark Souls Two is on sale right now half price so I bought it. Anyways....I'm about to wrap up Dark Souls and move on to DS2 next week so how does it compare to
DS1? It doesn't have to be as good for me to enjoy it just be in the ball park.

    :)

    Dark souls code

    Two questions:

One: is the dark souls 1 code promised with the purchase of the dark souls 3 deluxe edition coming before the release of dark souls 3?

Two: will the code be for an xbox one compatible version of dark souls 1?

Unless the answer to both questions is yes, i will be canceling my pre order and never ordering from the xbox live store again

I think that DS2 is a great game. I think that they changed enough to keep it interesting while still retaining the "feel" of a souls game.

DS1 is easily a superior game. There are some things that are good about DS2, and they made some improvements, but they also made some seriously misguided choices (soul memory anyone?) including choices that flew in the face of fixes that had to be made
to DS1 (like allowing fast rolling tanks).

  6. I don't have a problem with soul memory. I have never had a problem finding summon signs of others random players. I have one friend that I co-op a lot with (DS1 and DS2) and we only had one session where we got too far apart in soul memory and couldn't
co-op. A day later and we were back in range.

I think they did a pretty good job of making the soul memory ranges work well.

...and when it comes to PvP - I've had many more close battles in DS2 than I did in DS1.

The idea behind soul memory is horrible for both co-op and PvP IMO.

For co-op, sure, if you're going through the game with someone it's not too bad. But, that would also work for keeping around the same level. Having soul memory be the measure, however, opens up the game to having people who are way higher level come and
    do everything for you.

For PvP, it sets the stage for people who are much higher level to be able to invade you. They are at the level where they can use every spell, wear Havel's armor, fast roll, and have enough agility to have more I-frames than the Dark Wood Grain Ring gave
you in DS1. It's absolutely ridiculous, and FromSoft seems to prefer this. By pushing soul memory, they are basically encouraging everyone to level up as much as possible and become Havel Monsters who can do everything. With the multiple buffs allowed,
you can cast Great Magic Barrier, Sacred Oath, Resonant Flesh, and Numbness thus making you invulnerable. What's the fun in that?

And, if you are having close battles in PvP, then you are the lucky one. Most battles hinge on who gets the first hit and can stunlock you into oblivion. Dual-wielding was a great idea...too bad it's better to not power-stance and use the really difficult
tactic of RB, LB, RB, LB, etc.

    More on soul memory...

I do see the utility in stamping out low-level griefing, but I don't think that was the intent, because you can still be invaded by people much higher level now, as long as your soul memory lines up. I'm pretty sure that wasn't the intent.

I'm not sure if this was the intent, but I'm a little concerned that their intent was to flip off the DS PvP community due to the 120 meta (and other level metas) that were set by the community. Soul memory destroys that concept. People held to the meta
so that they could get PvP, because they wouldn't get very much PvP if they over-leveled. Then, DS2 comes along and they say, "Well, that's stupid, because we want everyone to level as much as they possibly can; the DS PvP community's meta ideas are dumb
and we're going to shut them down." It's basically taking a dump on the community, which kinda ticks me off, because the people who (mostly) continue to play these games after the novelty of killing the same bosses over and over wears off, are the people
    who are looking to PvP.

  9. I hear ya R3d - but at the point where the novelty wears off - aren't most of us at soul memory levels that don't really affect the ability to find good PvP matches? ...and if it's PvP you really want - aren't there enough PvP specific features in the game
to make it easy to get into a battle. For me, finding matches in the Blood Brothers convenant worked great, getting invasion/invasion-assistance requests by wearing the right convenant rings worked well, using/consuming red soap stone and dragon signs has
worked well. I'll admit - I haven't spent a ton of time in DS2 doing PvP stuff - but it has seemed to work pretty well so far.

I'm aware that a lot of people have complaints about soul memory but, if they had kept everything the same as it was in DS1 - then everything would just be complaining about it being the same game. From is never going to appease everyone but, from what I've
seen and experienced so far, I don't have any complaints about the PvP or Co-op aspects of DS2.

Pretty much no one played in the arena in DS1, so why did they make the bulk of PvP basically forced arena style for the BoB covenant (and the Sentinels, although it's a little easier to get cracked blue orbs than red ones)? Yes, you can always go to the
arena, but you're bound to run into people who are wearing full heavy armor, fast rolling, with tons of I-frames, both self and weapon buffs...it's boring and it makes it very difficult to obtain cracked red eye orbs unless you do the same thing...which makes
everyone have the same characters, which makes the game boring. That's the point of having level metas. It forces you to actually build a character with strengths and weaknesses. Having no level restrictions means you just make a character with no weaknesses
and that's boring and kills PvP.

I don't want to have a Havel Monster that is level 600+ that invades people who are level 100 or 150 or whatever. But, in turn, I don't want to be invaded by Havel Monsters continually, or fight them in the arena continually in order to try and earn cracked
    red eye orbs.

There are tons of other issues as well with the PvP, including the netcode and the fact that the dedicated servers are only to help with finding a match. There's infinite stunlocks and they removed toggle switching to avoid stunlock. There's a video where
someone has two broken swords and dominates because they can just continually swing and keep everyone stunlocked until the person is poisoned. It's pretty ridiculous.

  11. Maybe I just haven't done enough PvP to really know the difference. I definitely can relate to the stunlock experience. I've been done in a number of times by opponents that left me disabled. And maybe I've just been lucky to not run into more of these types
of players through my time in the game.

I'm getting to the end of my second character so maybe it's time to take a more focused look into the PvP to get a better first-hand experience on the pros and cons of the system.

Well, I sincerely hope you have a better experience with it than I have so far. To me, I'm seeing lots of glaring errors that they should have known about, since they fixed many of them in DS1 and then re-introduced them in DS2 for some unknown reason.
Either way, good luck and I hope you enjoy it.

To the OP, you'll probably enjoy it. It's still got some good elements to it, and playing the DS series is pretty awesome, even if it's not quite as awesome (IMO) as the original. Don't take my negativity without a grain of salt.
