Dark Souls (Original) vs. Dark Souls 2

Discus and support Dark Souls (Original) vs. Dark Souls 2 in XBoX Games and Apps to solve the problem; You need at least 3 of the souls and 1 mil souls memory. But yeah I get what you're saying. I don't like how there are so many optional bosses. Discussion in 'XBoX Games and Apps' started by MEGA MAN-67C02A75-B7C6-4ADA-8DB7-7601B09330CD, May 3, 2014.

There's a bypass for Shrine of Winter now that allows you to go through it as soon as you can get there. It involves jumping off the map and a pretty convoluted navigation though.

Dark Souls (Original) vs. Dark Souls 2

Well after 70 hours of playing I watched a cut scene involving a throne (the end, I guess?), started NG+, and... I'm done.

Eh. I don't know about that game. Maybe it is just the fatigue of playing it too much, but I don't feel like it is very good. I was frustrated lots of times in that game. Not from dying, but from other stuff. In DS1 I never had to look up a walkthrough once
(except for the rather convoluted procedure for accessing the DLC, LOL). In DS2 I had to use the internet to figure out the most basic stuff. Like:

    1. How to level up?

    2. Where is the last boss?

    3. How do I activate NG+?

    4. What does half of this junk in my inventory actually do?

Anyway. Just feeling done with this game. I did notice that started getting invaded a lot finally toward the end of the game. A blue sentinel never came to help me once, nor did my ring ever summon me to help others. That covenant is worthless.

Could someone kindly explain the ending? I just completely missed what actually happens in it. Doors get shut while by character sits on the throne but still nothing happens since you can just go back to Majula before starting a new playthrough, woohoo?

Also, I have another complaint: the stupid red phantoms on NG+ and beyond. Why are they needed? Isn't an increase in the enemy HPs enough? I felt like the red phantoms were just an annoyance during the 1st playthrough (they gave you like nothing at all...)
and now they just tripled the annoyance. Why? At least you didn't have to fight the red phantoms in DaS1 and if you chose to fight them, you actully got something. Yeah yeah, you can get some armors after reaching NG+, but at least the 2 first red phantoms
I've encountered during my NG+ playthrough have dropped nothing at all so they were useless.

The ending is you are the new ruler of Drangleic. You go back to Majula because I guess they wanted to let you tie up loose ends and upgrade equipment and all that before moving on to NG+.

As for the black phantoms, they are there to make the game more difficult. A lot of the black phantoms do drop rare items.

And being the ruler of Drangleic makes you the ruler of what, exactly? Drangleic has no town, no cities, only monster-infested ruins inhabited by the random crazed merchant. So if you are king, what are you the king of?

And did our hero ever get rid of the Darksign? That is why he came to Drangleic in the first place.

^This. It's like there was 0 point completing the game plot wise. It's like you're playing the game now just to beat bosses.

I have to say I find the game to be pretty darn good!I havent completet it yet,but imo some of the maps are really hardcore, and I certainly dont find the game to be too easy.Im thinking as I asume you startet playing the game because you liked it,that perhaps
you Guys need to put it Down for a couple of days, and give it a rest.Im sure you'll find the game to be every bit as great as DS1,and every bit as addictive.Anyway I certainly love it!

PS.could I get some pointers on how to kill that giant spider you run into going through Shaded Woods I believe it was?Its quite a long way past Shaded Woods im afraid, but , im not really great with names. You go Down this big web with lots of smaller spiders, and
at the buttom Theres a boss fight with this gigantic spider that nothing I seem to do does any damedge to.Whats the secret to killing it?

  10. You can only attack the faces of the 2 heads. I'd recommend lightning spear or some directional distant attacks.

The more I play this game, the more I think it pales in comparison to DkS 1.

The soul memory thing just ruins it. The only benefit to using soul memory to match people up for co-op and PvP is that it keeps people from griefing low level players. But, it also gives people no incentive to stop leveling up. You can be invaded by
people who are hundreds of levels above you if you have the same soul memory. It's ridiculous. Part of playing this type of game for many people is building a character that has limitations. But, doing that just puts you at a disadvantage whenever you get
into a PvP situation. It's like the game developers want everyone to level up as much as possible and make the game ridiculously easy by having stats to do anything and everything.

In DkS 1, they understood the issue with this. Flipping Havel tanks were simply ridiculous, so they did things to nerf that. In DkS 2 they decided to go the opposite direction and make it worse. They also threw in so many buffs and other things that most
of the PvPers that you fight will have a self-buff and a buff on their weapon, plus OP spells like great resonant soul, which can do 2000+ hp damage in a single hit. Not to mention the swing speed of large weapons (another thing they nerfed in DkS 1 and went
the other way with in DkS 2 for some strange reason), poise being completely incomprehensible, and agility making for more I-frames than using the Dark Wood Grain Ring from DkS 1 (with heavy armor no less due to the 70% fast roll setup). Ugh.

PvP in DkS 1 was way, way, way better, as was the balancing. DkS 1 was just a better game.

Hi Redpoint dont mean to disregard you, and others opinion of the game, and obviously you all know it way better than I. Its just you can play a game so much you dont really apriciate it in the same way that you whould be if you gave it a couple of days
rest once in a while. It can even get to a point where the littlest Things will start to annoy you, and you might skip it all together for the wrong reasons. Like myself back when I was playing GT5. I played it a lot for a while, but some things about the
game startet to annoyed me, and I ended up swearing, and cursing ppl, and almost put it Down for good, but when I later on put it back in the sensation of driving the cars where so good it almost blew my mind, and I had to forgive it all its shortcommings
even if it wasent perfect. Im not saying DS2 is perfect, but its a unik game with a unik atmosfere, but once in a while you might have to take a step back to truely apriciate it.

Anyway I hope you Guys stick around. Otherwise I whouldent know WHO whould help me get to the finishline. Happy gaming to all of you!

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, and I understand the value of putting a game down from time to time, but the criticisms I'm voicing are, IMO, close to game-breaking. Where's the incentive to keep playing if every character you make needs to be
level 500 and has no flaws? If everyone you meet in PvP has basically the same build? If the issues from DkS 1 have not only been brought back, but magnified?

There's a youtube video out there where a guy shows how broken the mechanics are. He is level 500 or something like that and invades others who are clearly a lower level. He has over 1200 physical defense and is still fast rolling. He has something like
2500 hp. When he gets hit, it barely registers. He also has affinity, resonant weapon, and some personal buffs. He also uses Dark Fog, which is way OP as well (it almost instantly poisons most characters). The only fight that's even close is against someone
who is also heavily armored, fast rolling, and looks high level as well.

These things can be patched, and I hope they do as it will fix the game. But, notice I'm saying "fix" instead of "improve." I really feel like the problems are close to game-breakers.

These issues you describe does sound like serious problems that needs to be addressed. But to be honest I havent really noticed anything. Im still on my first playthrough, and to me the World is as facinating as ever. All i'v noticed is a strange lack of
invations wich I thought was OK on the first playthrough, as being invaded can be quite off-putting when youre new to the game. But anyway they do have the ability to update the gameplay , so lets hope Theres someone there with the good sence to make it all
come together? You know so far im enjoying the game, but perhaps this time I wont spend so much time on NG+, but rather just start a new caraktor, and go for another round of jolly co-op instead of pissing lowlevel ppl off with my pyromancy Darkwraith LoL
