Dark Souls Digital/Gold Download Version Does Not Work With Retail Game Save

As the title state, the currently available Dark Souls digital download version for Gold members does not work with game saves from the retail disc version. I found this out because I originally had the retail disc version installed on my Xbox. However,
when I saw the digital version was available for free I figured I would install the entire thing, thus alleviating the need for the disc. The problem though, as many people have also discovered, is the digital version doesn't update. Despite what some may
think, and have stated in other posts, that it is at the current patch it is not. When I try to run the digital version and load my retail save it displays the following error:

Save file version differs from game version.

Sign in to Xbox LIVE to download update.

Closing game.

The game never closes but just locks at that error screen. If I restart the digital version it will not update. The only way to play my save is to play via the retail disc.

I'm glad this is available for free, but it is worthless if it can't be played - it can't be updated, people can't actually connect for any of the multi-player/online aspect, can not be used with retail saves. Please fix this. Thank you.

Recent DS patch

The Games with Gold version of Dark Souls didn't include the patches that were previously released for the retail version. I assume the update was adding those patches in.

 

Xbox 360 Not Reading Assassins Creed IV

If you are tryinfg to download it as well, remove the install and try again. Make sure you have space.

There's no reason a digital version of the game wouldn't work.

As for the retail version of it look for scratches. Because the game was offered for gold you should just download it. Again delete install, not game saves, and try again with the download, make sure you have the space. Then come back with an error that it gives if one happens.

Hey Cloud! Thanks for your reply and referencing the link. I saw it in the other thread as well that most were commenting on about the overall issue with the latest Dark Souls digital release. Hopefully there will be some resolution from Bandai Namco Games
Support soon.

I hope so. I have had this game recommended to me by several users over in the general forum sections so I am pretty eager to play it but in light of the current issues, its probably worth holding off. Hopefully its fixed soon.

This is a great game and I too would definitely recommend it. Just be ready for, like the games says, Prepare to Die - a lot. It can be frustrating at times, but when you succeed it makes it even more rewarding. I would also recommend Dark Souls II. Some
of the aspects have changed in DS2 and I think you would just get a better feel for the game if you played through DS first. Hopefully this issue is fixed soon so you can get to dying soon.

Hello there, Microsoft released the pre-patch version of the game by accident, they said they are fixing this problem, no date though. So I suggest just waiting. Re-downloading the game wont help. If you see an update for the game make sure you download
it, that means it will be fixed. Hope that helps.

I will let you know how I get on with it. I expect to die a lot but anyone worth their controller, knows that a hardcore game is (like you say) worth the win!
