I've never played the game, but I do love me some action RPG's. The amount of time required for the game and the difficulty scares me away from it, but for only 5 bucks... it's tough to pass up. For those "die-hards" who have played the game, is it really
as bad as people say? (In terms of difficulty)

charged again for xbox 360 gold, though it says it was not expired until 6 2014

Yeah, then I kind of figured "oh well, now I don't have to worry about paying again in June...." since I have that on the credit card anyway.

As for the dark souls, that was odd that it still said 4.99 through today. I even shut my xbox on, then off, to see if it was not letting me get 4.99 since it did not know I was gold or something. It still said 4.99 at the time of the first post i made,
though it said 19.99 once you went to pay, then was changed to 19.99 all of a sudden.

 

This is the best game to come out this generation. Don't let the difficulty scare you. I wouldn't say it's hard, just unforgiving.

 

It's an awesome game, The only reason I would not suggest someone to get it, is if you are the type to throw your controllers when you die or get mad/frustrated. But, I found it really enjoyable. If you like RPG's & you like a challenge ... go for it!!!

 

Exactly what Lactos292 said. The games difficulty is highly, highly overstated. It's sort of like a marketing ploy that works both ways. They say it's "extremely hard" to attract harcore gamers, but also scare away gamers. AS anyone here already knows by
now, it's probably my favorite game ever.

It's not nearly as difficult as people say, it's quite easy if you build your character with the right stats. A lot of people think its hard because they don't understand the mechanics - and rightly so, you have to 'discover' the mechanics yorself. The game
tells you basic button presses and how to use the inventory system at the beginning, thats it. You're left to discover the workings of everything else yourself, from spells, miracles, and pyromancy to weapon upgrades.

If you ever get confused about any of this stuff there are numerous wikis that explain things in a really simple manner, so essentially the real instructions aren't included with the game, they're just on the internet if you ever need to use them. The game
encourages you to learn for yourself what works for you. That means almost all the gear you find in the game is useful in some way or another if you learn how to use ti to your liking,

Get the game, put a little time into it. If you ever have problems, I frequent the Dark Souls subreddit and it's always teeming with new players asking questions and getting responses within the hour. It's been on sale a lot lately and the community is still
very, very active. There is a lot you have to do in this game to "do everything" I'd say it has just as much replayability as the Fallout and Elder Scrolls games simply because of how many different ways you can craft your character and PvP.

If you like dungeon crawlers, and you don't own this game, you're missing out.

 

Yeah Dark Souls is almost a joke compared to its predecessor Demon's Souls. People complain about Blighttown..pssh I still have nightmares about Valley of Defilement, being beaten mercilessly by giant goblins around that massive abyss....just no, I'd argue
5-2 was more stressful than Dark in its entirety. Back on topic I say go for it, like everyone else has said the difficulty is exaggerated heavily, especially compared to the other Souls game they basically hold your hand. Bonfires, a plethora of healing
items, lack of world tendencies. Take it slow and learn from your mistakes and you'll be fine, and honestly if you have a PS3, I'd say play Demon's Souls first if possible. It's a better beginning experience IMO and it will make you appreciate Dark Souls a
little more.

Back on topic, this is the most unique and interesting game you could play. Go and get it, especially for $5. Like Isaac I've put plenty of time into this and as long as you can actually LEARN (you know, most people can't do that while playing anymore) you'll
do fine.

 

I paid $20 for this title early 2013 and am still enjoying the game - $20 well spent. Picking it up now for $5 is awesome. I never played the first game (demon soul?) but having a blast with this game. After I played it 1 day, got angry and almost deleted
it... I tried it again over the Xmas holidays and am hooked. Just defeated the 4 kings and have a few more tasks to complete

Oh it did, haha. There were times in DeS that I would die and have to restart the level and never found a single healing poultice. I thank God for the over abundance of them in DkS. Rather have too many than none. I also appreciate the refinements overall
to everything. I'll concede that overall DkS is the better game, but I hope DkS 2 has a little more demon in it.

 

I honestly just couldn't get into the game. Bought it during the last $5 sale it had and have barely touched it

 

I walked in expecting this game to be as hard as Ninja Gaiden 2 (no joke), but I got the full 1000g easy enough, just requires a few playthroughs.

Also if you find certain parts of the game hard you can get a coop partner in to help with bosses etc. so it's really not that bad in the end. Great game though I highly recommend it.

 

To further add to my post, I would quite happily have paid $200 for this game, though certainly before I knew how much use I would get out of it.

$5? The question isn't whether you should get it, it's how long it'll be before it's downloaded and you're ready to go.
