Dark Souls 3 Joining a Friend w/Soapstone

My friend and I used to be able to host each other in Dark Souls 3 (and in another game, MGS5's Metal Gear Online), but now for some reason we do not see each other's summon sign but other random players can and do join. Similarly, we can join other random
players games but not my friend's. We've tried using a password so only the two of us can see our summon signs but they still do not appear anymore. This started about a week a go, as we used to be able to host each other no problem. Why is this happening?
Is there something wrong with some connection between only my friend and I?

Note: on Metal Gear Online, we used to be able to host each other but now we can only host other random players. And when joining a public game, when the host leaves and makes either me or my friend host, the game kicks me or my friend out, depending on
whichever one of us became host, but all the other players remain in the game no problem, and my friend and I cannot seem to join each other when one of us are hosting an online match. I don't understand why we can't host each other

Anyone interested in starting a Xbox 360 Dark Souls community site?

Dark souls is a long term game, w/ lots of replayability. Dark souls wiki kinda got the handle on it atm tho...but i'd love to see any cummunity contributions!
