damaged or unreadable game disc

My son's Rockband 4 disc for xbox one wont install. The machine says it is dirty or damaged.

Is there any way to download a copy and use the key from the disc we bought?

Also, where on the product is the key? I cant find one.

Xbox disc reader damaged?

'Disc unreadable/damaged'

Purchased a new copy of borderlands 2 yesterday, then installed it straight onto my harddrive - now for some reason I'm getting the message that the game is unreadable or damaged..

Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? It can't be that the disc is damaged, as I bought it then installed it onto the harddrive without having played it.

Does my xbox need a service?

Afraid not.

If you want a digital version of the game then you would need to buy it again.

If the disc is new then i'd take it back & get a replacement.

You can try cleaning the disc with a soft cloth or a lot of dedicated game stores offer a cheap disc repair service so you could try that.

If other disc based games are having the same issue then it could be a problem with the consoles disc drive.

The reason it seems to be working when playing from the disc is that your xbox hasn't had any reason to access the data in the damaged part of the disc yet. When it does need to you will get a disc unreadable error or the game will freeze.

When installing it needs to access the whole disc which is why it always fails.

And to answer your question it will say disc unreadable at some point when the game needs to access the damaged part of the disc.

As you've already tried one of those disc repair services then your best option is to get a new disc.

Unreadable: Your disc or Xbox isnt functioning properly. Try diffrent games, if they are too unreadable your xbox is flawed. If those other games work fine, your Skyrim disc is damaged. Nonetheless, once you find out get xbox/game restored and cleaned.

Corrupt: This damage is irrevocable and
CAN NOT BE FIXED. So before you decide to get rid of your game save, make sure that the file is indeed corrupt.

It sounds like it's time to get a new Reach disc. Although the game is installed on the HDD, the console will check that you have a copy of the game in the tray and if the disc is damaged and unreadable you will not be able to play it from the HDD.
