DAC, Headphone amp and PC headset on Xbox One?

    Hello to everybody,

need the community's help on a subject which I am confused about. PC gamers can greatly improve their gaming audio experience and quality by using DACs, headphone amps and dedicated headsets.

    My simple questions are:

    1. Can a DAC and/or a headphone amp be used on the Xbox One?

    2. If the answer is yes to question n. 1, do I need both the DAC
and the headphone amp or is one of the two enough? (I play with headsets only).

    3. Is it possible to use a PC gaming headset on the Xbox One (using some type of cable/jack adapter)?

    4. When the Xbox One adapter for third party headsets will be released, can I enable chat with a PC headset?

Thanks for any info and suggestions!

P.S. I'm not interested in any set up with the Astro Mixamp

    :)

    Chat through a HI-FI headphone??

I doubt getting an answer for my hi-fi headphone - attachable mic - microsoft adapter problem as posted above. It probably would not work anyway. Maybe a compromise solution could be: PC headset with two 3.5mm jacks (audio + mic). The audio jack to the DAC,
    mic jack to the adapter.

This might be the only way to get chat audio to the headset while maintaining superior game audio from the DAC. Check out the forthcoming Audio Technica ATH ADG1 PC headset.

how did this all work out for you, RougeWarrior72? I'm planning on upgrading my audio quality with a console... TOSlink... DAC/amp.... $200-300 headphones.

  4. DAC, Headphone amp and PC headset on Xbox One?

    1. Any USB DAC is a no go on any console since your going to need software and drivers to actually make it work. Easiest option is pass PCM stereo over HDMI to your TV and use the RCA audio out plus an RCA to 3.5mm female adapter so you can connect any headphones
    you want.

    2. Shouldn't need an amp connecting it the way I suggested. Should be able to reach high volumes easily plus be able to adjust the volume with your remote or with voice commands using the Kinects IR blaster feature.

    -

    3. Trying to use a PC gaming headset isn't really an option right now unless you feel comfortable modifying the current headset connector. It can be done just complicated and most certainly a hassle with a lot of wires.

    4. Maybe, but really they are going to be made for headsets made for use with the consoles.

I would wait for two things. The update that brings back Dolby Digital 5.1 to optical out and either the MS headset adapter or one from a third party company. Then I would get a headset meant for the Xbox One or is compatible using the headset adapter.

Thank you very much for the info and the suggestion that it's probably better to wait for an update and the Microsoft adapter. I mistakenly only mentioned PC players in my post, but obviously you can purchase DAC's and headphone amps with an optical port
(used for hi-fi sets and home theatre), which could connect to the Xbox One. This would avoid the sofware and drivers problem but would I get the sound signal through to my headsets?

  6. Sorry if I'm late to the thread but there is a way to get great audio and that is by purchasing the Astro Mixamp. Basically it IS a DAC. It may be expensive for jus the mixamp but honestly produces the best quality surround sound. By using Dolby Headphone
technology, it converts stereo or native 5.1 audio to 7.1 via optical (best quality) cable. Hope this helped.

  7. I use the Sound Blaster X G5 for the XB1 and PS4. This thing is a BEAST. I connect it to my V-Moda Crossfade Wireless M-100 (which already sound amazing), I use the AMP/DAC to boost these babies to their full potential and get great 7.1 surround sound.
Plus, the software you adjust the G5 with is great! I HIGHLY recommend this. I haven't tried the Astro A40TR mixamp, but I have heard good things. Good luck with your setup. (Sorry for the stupidly late response).

How to connect the headset using control with input P2 together with dac / amp? Does the P3 plug of the headset go into the DAC or controller? How to send the headset microphone sound to the game?
