Customized gamertag

Hello,

So I recently changed my gamertag to something that is available with no # after it then I customized the gamertag and changed it to a different gamertag that was also not taken so no # after it. I’m just wondering when I sign on to my Xbox it shows the original tag with the customized tag below, when I look up both gamertags they show me as being first on the list. But when I go into gamertag change it says that my first gamertag not the customized one is available. Is it actually available or just says that? Just for an example

If my gamertag was ( red ) than customized it to redz#23667 than on platforms that dont like the # would just use red. But mine is as an example ( hello ) and customized to ( daylight ) both with no # cause they were both available for me, but than when I go to gamertag change on a different account it says that my first gamertag ( hello ) is available. Because both of my gamertags are supported by all systems. Just wondering if it’s actually available or when you try and buy it an error message comes up?

If you’re assigned a suffix, the # symbol and suffix appear everywhere except in friends lists. You don’t see suffixes of friends in your friends list, and they don’t see yours in their friends list. Your suffix may also appear in games that support the modern gamertag system so that everybody knows who’s who.

New Xbox players or those who want to change their gamertag can claim a desired gamertag with up to 12 characters. If a gamertag is already taken, a suffix with numbers is attached to differentiate you from other people with the same gamertag. Suffixes are subtle so that the focus is on the name you chose, but they are always shown.

If you do decide to change your existing gamertag, be aware that you may lose it to someone else. To learn more about creating a new gamertag

On Xbox 360: Gamertags can be up to 15 characters long, including spaces. They can’t start with a number.
On Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows: Gamertags can be up to 12 characters long, including spaces. They can’t start with a number.
If you receive a message that says a gamertag is unavailable, this means that you’ll need to try another. The gamertag that you’re trying to create is either inappropriate for the Xbox service or can’t be used at this time.
After you confirm your new gamertag, the change is reflected across Xbox. You don't need to tell your friends that you've changed it—their friends lists will be updated automatically.

You already used your change

As you have a custom gamertag

What you are reading is correct but doesn't apply to you since you have a custom gamertag

The free change is for new accounts that get randomly generated names not custom gamertags

You have to select a.classic gamertag under customize your classic gamertag

i don’t want to change the suffix, i want to change my classic gamertag while keeping the same ‘new format’ gamertag
