Cuphead stuck on splash screen and does not load

Hi, I recently bought Cuphead and redeemed it on my Microsoft account. It installed and functions fine on my Xbox, but on my laptop, while I can install it, every time I run it it gets stuck on the splash screen and stays like that for about a minute before the application closes. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, resetting it, checking for updates, and restarting my computer and none of these have worked. If it helps, occasionally I receive a 0x803F8001 error code that says "Cuphead is currently not available in your account", but it still loads all the same and gets stuck on the splash screen. In case this is a problem, Cuphead also does not appear in the Xbox app (if it is supposed to). Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello KadeQ, have you checked if you have the latest version of Windows installed, at 21H2, because recently came out the latest update to Windows 10.

See which version of Windows 10 you have

Also make sure all Xbox Apps are up to date in the store.

Also, Cuphead com is a Playanywhere game, it appears to install directly from the Mictosoft Store App, log in with the account that bought the game and then go to the Library, filter for "Games" and then search for the game and try to reinstall again.

Hi Georges,

It seems like my device can't update to Windows 10 21H2 since it is not showing up as an option to install when I check for new updates, so I suppose this might be the problem.

So after trying a bunch of different methods enabled location services and reset the time zone and also enter this into the Windows PowerShell (Admin):

dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Not sure which one did the trick, but it's working now.

I have just experimented some more and have figured out that all of the Play Anywhere apps give me the same error code if that is any help.

I have the same problem:

DR3 - either crashes to home screen, or gets stuck at "Loading"

AC4 - either crashes to home screen, or gets stuck loading the save game

KI- crashes to home

COD- Goes into a loop going back to the splash screen after showing the menu for a second or two

These are all digital download games. I'm on my 2nd replacement xbox and support hasn't been able to help me at all.
