crossplay on child account

is there any way to allow fortnite crossplay on a child account? I Can do it from my adult account but my son can’t play with his friends on other platforms because he’s got a child account. I don’t want him to use my account. Thanks

Microsoft should have been more clear on the ristrictions of creating a Child account, and especially on the things you cannot change later on. E.g. My son can't use the FIFA app on his iPad, because he has a Xbox child account... Confirmed by EA customer
support that this is due to his child account and that cannot be changed. Same with Mixer; he can't Stream due to his child account. No setting anywhere to allow this. It really sucks balls that I can't control what I want to allow my kid to do online! I can
allow him to play a 18+ game offline, but he can't cross-play freaking Fortnite...

I am going to contact MS support and sum up all the issues we are having with his child account. I feel cheated. They should upgrade him to an adult account, or transfer all his achievements to a new adult account.

 

I am completely embarrassed at the lack of foresight into allowing parents control over their child’s account. It is crystal clear, unless you’re living off the grid, there is a high likelihood my 12 -year-old or younger will want to play video games on
the Xbox with friends on another platform. To take a stance similar to a North Korean dictator, and not allow a toggle that lets the parent control this type of freedom is jaw dropping.

Could the justification be that people on PC or PlayStation gamers are significantly more vulgar than Xbox users? Does Microsoft believe the parents of children 12 year olds and younger are pathetic mindless ninnies and out of touch with their child’s
exposures? Seriously, what could be the possible justification of having such a rigid rule that is not under control of the parent? Thank you so much, executive vice president in charge of claiming Microsoft wants to allow parents control over their kids
gaming environment.

I think it is important to understand what Microsoft is saying with this setup.

“XBOX is safe for children.

BUT..

Microsoft Windows 10 is dangerous for children and will expose them to all sorts of cross platform nastiness.”

Not really the sort of message that I thought Microsoft would want to put out about their product, but it is what we can assume. I think posting this message on other forums might get them to fix the problem.

 

did you have any success? i was following another thread where a forum developer called Brad assured us this was being worked on - but then they shut down the thread and told all with the problem to create a new one?

i am new to the site and am confused? the fortnite crossplay bug for child or family accounts is still not solved

 

I too have been following that thread. I do not understand how, without posting a fix or news, they can just shut the thread? Is there a fix that we don;t know about?

 

don’t think so - nothing at all from microsoft at least - epic told me this morning than in november they will be lauching a merge account feature which will allow us to migrate fortnite v-bucks (and other purchases) between console accounts - which should
allow us to create new family accounts (my understanding is the bug only affects kids under 13) where we just have to add a year or year or two onto their ages and we can retain the use of family account features - we can then link new account to epic accounts
full of loot?

 

if this is the best solution though we can get it looks a bit embarassing for microsoft...

 

This is total rubbish from EPIC and MS. There should be no need to merge or re-create. A bug should be fixed or a work-around written in to their code. A child account has a valid purpose and the family system works. Strikes me that they are spending their
dev time creating new skins and toys to keep the $$s coming in rather than keeping their promise to the user base and allowing children to play with their friends.

Enough savvy people have tried this and failed. Setting up children with an adult account or fiddling ages is not acceptable to many parents.

Come on MS. Let's have a proper answer and a fix please. Don't just shut the thread with a direction to contact EPIC.

 

agree absolutely! feels like there is no real access to microsoft to lodge complaints at all - we parents need to stick together - am currently evaluating the ps4 and nintendo options to see how they compare.... epic forced to act because they see the
v bucks won’t keep flowing if we aren’t listened too - but microsoft think we have too much invested in hardware to switch???

Sorry for the inconvenience. Gaming on a computer or PC has different advantages than a gaming console and all child
accounts have been set up with maximum security to protect our younger customers while they game online.



All Microsoft accounts that are adult accounts should be eligible for cross play. The only accounts that have restrictions
are the Microsoft child accounts. This is not a bug, Microsoft intentionally set up this barrier for many reasons and plan on releasing a solution to change that option soon. We do not have an estimated time frame on this issue at the moment. As soon as we
find out more information; we will update everyone on the forums about this
issue. Keep an eye out for our response as we are diligently working on allowing parent accounts to manage cross platform play in the parental settings.

Thank you for an honest reply.

I'm sure you will agree that this issue has been in the public domain for months and MS have been slow in providing information and a fix. Our children are unable to play with their friends, who are happily meeting up in the evenings on other platforms.
My children are seriously critcal of the MS brand and so fed up that they are wanting to change to PS or Switch.

What do we need to do to get this fixed quickly?

Thanks for reaching out to us! Trust me, we have all been waiting for this. At first we did believe it was an issue with the game itself but later realized it was an issue on our end. At that point we reported the issue to our engineers in order to make
changes to this setting. They did inform us that they have been working on it but that it is taking them some time to work out the kinks. The rough estimate to expect this change is around November this year. Fingers Crossed everything goes smoothly. Again,
we will be here to keep you all posted!
