Cross System Party Chat

The other day I decided to play Left 4 Dead 2, and saw that my friend that I hadn't played with in a long time was in a versus match. I joined the match, and moments later she invites me to a party. I tried to connect, but I had no way to open up the invite,
I just went to the home screen, and there was no new notification or message.

I start a party and invite her, but she's unable to join. The only way I was able to connect with her, was using the in-game 'view gamercard' thing and start a party. She connected to me and her friends shortly followed. But then, neither my Kinect nor my
Turtle Beach would work as a viable mic (which are my only options for an Xbox 1 microphone)

Is there a way to have a party chat with players from both 360 and 1 consoles and have each of them be able to use a mic to talk? Or is it just for private chat?

(The Kinect was hooked up and set to use as a Mic, and wasn't registering in Game Chat either)

Cross-platform chat using the Xbox party system or chat system is not possible. You can still send text messages cross-platform though. Using other third-party apps such as Skype does permit you to go cross-platform though. Hope this helps!

No. Cross-platform gaming and voice chat (messaging and party) using the Xbox chat system are not possible. You can send text messages or use Skype cross-platform though.

To party chat with other Xbox 360 players you'll need to open up the Xbox 360 guide by pressing both the Menu and View button while within the game. From there you can select the party from the Xbox 360 side of things
