Cross platform play apparently coming

There are a load of *** going around about cross play, and people fall into it, all this stuff about graphics and exclusives, its a load of tosh.

Another one sided article by forbes IMO, don't know why i bothered tbh.

If your waiting for a game on RL you can go into the menus and train and play while you wait, very clever design.

Two things that stand out to me about cross play are cheaper for developers as they only need servers for 1 system, instead of 2-3-4, and a bigger player pool, neither of which any article actually focuses on.

This sounds fun, although I can imagine chat, as well as messaging, would be severely vitriolic. If it connects gamers and (this is the caveat), it costs nothing more, then why would anyone care. Though I admit that a connection thru XBL and windows 10 may
be an issue for Sony. Dunno tho, sorta a layman. I own both and bottom line for me is if it costs me nuthin, I'm for it...

 

I wouldn't worry about the chat Raist, Chat is virtually gone on the Xbox One, and it was never really there on the PS4/PS4.

People seem to not want to chat anymore.

 

This whole thing is weird. Sony have been doing cross platform gaming since the PS2 era while MS have always had Live on lockdown but now their console is being destroyed by the competition they want to open XBL up? Is the MP pool of players that low on
Xbox now?

 

cross play with the state of xbox live and it's performance lately, if i was Sony i would not let Live anywhere near other platforms online. Bad enough we can't get a stable gaming environment.

 

I for one welcome our cross-platform overlord. I hope this comes true.

 

I can see this going one of two ways.

1: Sony just don't do it, it doesn't make any sense from a business perspective one of the reasons its still running away is because its reached critical mass, people are buying to play with people who have it.

2: Sony do something but not alot, like cherry picking game's for cross play that wont really impact them.

 

Actually, this doesn't make sense for the xb1. Let's say you've got friends on XB1 but buy most of your cross platform games on the competition though a few common ones you still buy on xb1. If there's x platform gaming happening than you can buy whatever
version you want. Example being the division, I stupidly bought the ps4 version knowing I'd get better parties on the XB1, I'll probably get the xb1 version now though only for that reason. No, it doesn't make sense, I think Phil and MS need to stop talking
possibilities, Agree that XB1 is a great machine as it is now and seek out developers for future titles.

 

I actually hope it comes about. I may one day Buy a PS4 but I would never pay for 2 online subs knowing that ill play all my Online on Xbox. I do however have lots of acquaintances on the PS4 who I would love to have some games of say Battlefront or Battlefield
with on occasion and no need for me to sign up for PSN.

Since I mostly play MP games I for one don't want to see this. Since I am in the US and the majority of Sony's base is oversees I already see enough OOR players on US servers and don't need to see anymore.

 

Shuhei Yoshida has pretty much said it's a no go from Sony and rightly so IMO, it's one thing for MS to open up PC/XB play but the whole XB/PS thing was nothing more than a publicity gimmick by MS to make Sony look bad while attempting to cling to their
player base.

 

Where did he say no? I thought sony were also fairly open to the idea.
