Gears did not have cross platform play. Shadowrun was cross-platform.

By taking away the requirment for 3rd party to have to use MS/Sony's PSN/XBL switchboard. No switchboard codex means 3rd party games sold on Win10, Xbox and Sony could be played with/against owners of other consoles etc.

I sorta discussed this in my last thread. And now, it's likely to happen faster than even I suspected.

 

Good move. I'd like to play with some guys I know on PS4 on some 3rd party games. Interesting to see if Sony says yes.

 

I didn't think of that, Sony approval? I'm playing street fighter 5 on PS4 against PC players and it works fine. If this does become a regular thing I can only see it being positive for the XB1.

 

If Microsoft were genuine they would have reached sony/nintendo in private and make this a collaborative announcement.

makes me think there is a few devils in the details and they are pulling a publicity stunt to strong arm sony into agreeing to lopsided/controled deal

360 had crossplay with ps2 for an mmo but Microsoft changed its tune soon after

I'd of loved to of been a fly on the wall at the ms meetings over the last month or two. All the different things they have been doing lately and the way they've been acting is just....well, weird.

 

I'll believe it when I see it. I love reading comments from Sony fanboys saying Rocket League and other games will have to be severely downgraded then to match X1 lol.

 

In the Sony camp, many are saying this will never happen. Why? Console sales according to most, not a negative impact. I honestly think it's a great idea, just not shooters with pc/Mouse/Kb support. So MS and Sony together would be great, if the Division
supported it I'd be more than happy.

 

if Sony denies it then Microsoft is pulling something behind the scenes. nebulous,disruptive and harmful, simple as that.

Sony has cross play games with other consoles and pc already, and this is a proven fact.

this will be a litmus test of microsoft's intentions. If sony denies they can tell exactly why, cause they sure as hell are not signing any NDA's when the RL dev is putting on pressure pulling this stunt with ms

if Microsoft was genuine this would have been talked about with more parties. its fishy and microsofts messging latly has been very confusing

 

All this openness with MS is a bit off but in some ways it makes sense. First allow developers to program in on engine which then runs on PC and X1 so lets say that (example only) No Mans Sky comes out on the PS4 and PC technically it could also work on
the X1 as a result of the PC play. However Multiplayer doesnt work unless they open up which they claim to be doing.

So in the end we have a PS4 console exclusive that works on the PC which means X1... Sony has to then admit they have no exclusives if they let developers publish to PC.

If thats MS's plan its bold and will force sony to lock down to prevent their brand from slipping.

Sony will not let their games slip on to Xbox One. They will still Develop, Produce and Publish Sony Exclusive games. That will not be on PC, It is Microsft that is trying to merge that market, and lose consumers

It is for the developers to decide if a game should be Cross Platform. Take Rocket League, It came out on PS4/PC at the same time. And was Cross Play. It became so big, it is MLG. And still to this day they can have over 100,000 playing.

When they decided to bring RL to the Xbox One, and cross play was mention. Rocket League had to put a twitter statement up say exactly this "The Xbox platform doesn't allow for crossplay matchmaking between other systems as a general practice across all
titles."

That smacks to me, not of Psyonix not wanting Cross-Play, But Microsoft. Now look at the servers for RL on Xbox One, I play it frequently, but it can be hard to get a game.

Playstation have had many cross-play games, Microsoft have tended to steer away from it.

Now all off a sudden, It is possible to Cross-play all PC/X1/PS4.... Funny That.

I personally welcome it, as a game changer. A way of keeping a games longevity online, and a why to once and all finally stop all the smack talk, of which gaming community is better than the other. The leagues will show
