Cross-console party, chat, and gaming

I am personally finding this unacceptable, but it appears that there is

(a) no cross platform party capabilities on Xbox Live between Xbox One and Xbox 360,

(b) no cross platform chat capabilities between X1 and the 360, and

(c) no way to play with people on the 360 when I am on the X1 even if we are playing the same game.

Further, it is completely unacceptable to me that I had to go search the web and look through a number of results (none of which were owned by Microsoft) before I was able to find this information. I finally came across it, in part (I could never actually

What is this problem you may be asking? Well, it comes down to money of course, as most things in this world do: I purchased a Xbox One day-1 edition for $500 way back when. Destiny just came out, and I purchased the collector's edition of that for $100,
then I see that it isn't multiplayer, so I go out and get a second copy (this one for the 360) so the other live account in my family can play with me, just to get home, install it (yay, I can't return it at this point... that's another $60) and I find out
that no matter what I try I can't add the 360 user to a party on my X1, nor can I add myself to a party from the 360 (though both sides claim they sent the party invitation).

Now, according to the interview, you are saying that the sound quality would suffer when partying between the 360 and X1, but I find that a bit hard to believe. The great thing about software is that you can patch it, add capabilities, and modify its behavior.
If you want to claim that it is hardware incompatibilities, I'll laugh. Amazingly, we don't need the hardware to be interacting in much of any sense. Both console send and receive data over the network, using network-byte order (big endian) and receive it
on the other side being able at which point they can put it back in their respective byte orders and act accordingly. The fact that one is an intel and one is a powerPC chip should make literally no difference in this case.

So, I ask: Why is this information so ****ing hard to find on the web? Why isn't it stated plainly in bold letters on the support site? Why can't we party across consoles (and I'd love to see a good answer to this one)? And why can I send a party, and a
game, invitation to someone on another console if it absolutely can't work to begin with!? That definitely seems like something an error message could be useful for...

PS: If you can't tell, this is a little frustrating.

No. Cross-platform gaming and voice chat (messaging and party) using the Xbox chat system are not possible. You can send text messages or use Skype cross-platform though.

 

Voice Communication between Xbox1 and 360

"For a variety of technical reasons - including the sound quality that I talked about above
- we don't support voice chat between the two systems." When Major Nelson was asked whether the Xbox One would be able to support cross-platform vocal chat (or Party Chat) with the Xbox 360. He responded with a discouraging comment: "I've asked
- based on what I know of the voice system, I would be surprised if this was possible." So the answer will probably be no for using the console party chat system. However, you can cross-platform between consoles via Skype.
