    i am trying to buy skate 3 (backwards compatible) from the microsoft store on my xbox with $35.00 in my account however it says "You have no valid payment options on file. Microsoft Account balances cannot be used in this purchase channel. i am aware of
    what this means but i dont understand why its a thing. and is there anyway i can still buy it with my microsoft account balance instead of spending another $25.00???

    That is because is how works the xbox 360 market in Xbox One, you will always need a credit card to buy xbox 360 games if you are trying by website market or through xbox one market.

    The only way would be to make the purchase through a 360 console. The One store has never been updated to work with the Microsoft Account balance for 360 or original Xbox content.

    If you still have an 360 at your home, connect it to your TV and Internet. Then you could make the purchase with your balance there. After that it should appear in the ready to install section on your xbox one.

    This might be because even though your going play it on your Xbox One the Xbox 360 doesn't accept the balance on your account as a payment. The 360 marketplace is different from Xbox One marketplace. This from https://support.xbox.com/en-US/billing/prepaid-codes/types-of-prepaid-codes

    You can't use Microsoft or Xbox gift cards to purchase content from the Xbox 360Marketplace
    or Xbox 360 content on the Xbox One. ... Otherwise, the recipient will be
