Creating a Gamertag for my son

Hello all. For the past year my son has been using my gamertag to play Fortnite with his buddies. I have recently gotten back into playing some games online and it’s causing issues when my son wants to also play a game. I am buying another XBox One for myself
and want to know what my best course of action would be.

Do I give him my current gamertag and create a new one for myself? Do I create a new one for him? I assume I’d need to create an email address for him as well?

One concern he has is that he has bought quite a bit of skins and whatnot in Fortnite. I can certainly give him some money to buy new ones. Ha.

Another concern of mine is that my gold account doesn’t expire until January. Ideally I’d like whatever account I am using to have the gold account on it and whatever my sons gamertag is to be the one under my gold account.

I honestly don’t care about any old stuff associated with my gamertag. If I set myself up with a new tag, have my old one be the primary still, can I switch my new one to be the primary gold account in January when my subscription expires and have my old
gamertag (sons) be under my gold? Obviously would have to make some changes to the “Home Xbox” settings, correct?

Hopefully this all makes sense and I appreciate any and all help.

Sounds like this will be the best option then. I just wish there was a way to get my old email address associated with a new gamertag as well.

In order for him to keep using his progress and anything in-game items, he would need to continue using your account. If you were to create a new account for him, he would have to start over.

As far as the gold subscription, yes. Once your current subscription ends you can purchase it on your new account. Then as long as you have the console your son is using set as your Home, he'll be able to access the gold.

My sons gamertag is TreaclesNephew

My Microsoft account/email seems to be associated with TreaclesNephew.

My son hasn't used Xbox for many years.

I guess I will have to create a new gamertag then? Can I disassociate my Microsoft account from my sons gamertag?

SAME SITUATION

I created a XBOX LIVE account for my son over a decade ago. I used my work email address when I created the gamertag. Back then Microsoft's services were not lumped under one login (that didn't even exist). When Microsoft deployed their one login system they
merged my son's Xbox Live account into my work Microsoft account.

Now my son is an adult. We need to transfer HIS Xbox Live gamertag to HIS Microsoft account.

This is idiotic.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

When I click that link it asks me for an email address. Is this for my son's account or mine? Something I noticed on our xbox is that my two younger sons have gamertags but their email addresses are not connected to these, and I can't find a way to link the two without it trying to create a new gamertag for their emails.
