    Hello, since few days, i’ve received a new Xbox controller with battery pack, and a wireless dongle for windows 10.

    My computer fully freeze, crash and reboot when I plug a jack headphone,

    I don’t like seeing my fresh new computer crashing like that because a controller don’t sprl properly.

    I see some people on internet talking about the low battery charge sending bad things to windows through the wireless dongle...

    Low battery warning in Windows

    Salutations,

    I use the wireless Xbox One controller with the USB dongle

    (which btw is extremely oversized compared to the Steam dongle, not to mention the Logitech ones).

    Using the Windows 10 app Xbox Accessories I can check the battery level to a certain extent

    (it shows a battery bar and a vague description, no percentages).

    However, there is absolutely no low battery level warning!

    On the Steam controller the button with the logo on it would flash
    if it was near death but the only way the Xbox controller tells you is by
    instantly turning off    . Something that is highly frustrating when playing a ranked multiplayer game.

    Is there any way to get a similar warning as the Steam controller for low battery level, or at least some sort of software popup?

    Before updating to Windows 10, my computer was on Windows 7 and I was able to check the battery status of my xbox 360 wireless controller by touching the guide button, but it does not work in windows 10. ¿There is any way to check de battery status
    of the xbox 360 controller on windows 10?

    Hi,

    1. It will work wired and wireless. You can only charge the battery while being wired if you have a battery pack installed. Regular AA re-chargeable batteries can not be charged during play. The official Xbox One X/S battery pack will be released November
      10, same as the console. As far as I know the controller does not come with a USB C cable, unless you are also purchasing an Xbox Series X/S console (cable is in the box). Yes, your PC will be able to charge/power an Xbox Series X controller.
    2. Yes, once they run out you'll need to charge the battery. If you need to do this externally (AA batteries), you can connect the controller via USB and power the controller via the cable with no batteries installed. An official Microsoft fully charged battery
      is rated for around 30 hours. Re-chargeable AA batteries will vary.
    3. Yes. You can use a Bluetooth USB dongle if your PC does not have BT built into the motherboard.
    4. No. Windows 10 will already contain the necessary software to run your controller. There is an Xbox optional Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 available that uses its own wireless protocol and will allow some extra functionality such as headsets, chatpads,
      and the Xbox Stereo Adapter.

    That is a wireless Xbox 360 controller. The 3rd party adapter currently plugged into it will charge it's battery but not allow gaming via the wire. You'll need a PC/360 wireless controller dongle which will likely be quite difficult to find these days.

    Xbox one controller cannot connect via bluetooth

    What operating system are you running? You can only connect the controller via bluetooth on Windows 10.

    On 8.1 and below the PC will see the controller but be able to use it, for wireless use you'll need the official dongle.

    Yes,

    Under Human Interface Devices, as Xbox One Wireless Controller. This is when connected with the Microsoft wireless USB dongle.

    I’ve also seen the controller under game controllers when initially connected via Bluetooth. But I abandoned using it via Bluetooth with my windows 10 pc. Only wireless adapter now.

    Hi,

    There is no driver to download or update for Xbox 360 controllers on Windows 10. You just plug them in.

    Note: Xbox 360 wireless controllers can not be turned into wired controllers. A 360 play and charge cable can only charge a battery or power the controller if no battery is present, it does not send data.

    • If you have a wired 360 controller just plug it in, no driver required
    • If your controller is wireless, you need an Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows.
