    If I turn on my headset, it turns on my Xbox and connects, which is all well and good if I want to play on my Xbox. However, it does it no matter where I am in the house, even if I want to use it on my computer or phone. Worse still, the connection that
    far away is weak, and it disconnects and reconnects over and over again. This causes it to repeatedely yell “headset paired, headset paired”. I solve the problem by keeping my console unplugged all the time, except for when in use. Could there be any side
    effects to this? Is it better for the console to always have power, even when not turned on? I will get a new console soon, and I want to keep it in the best conditions possible to work as best it can.

    No, there is no side effects to doing it. I myself turn the power off to the console every night, and never had an issue.

    Is there any reason you unplug the power cable? Or are you unplugging the wired ethernet cable.

    Unplugging the power cable is ok as long as you allow the console to shutdown prior to disconnecting the console from power. It would be better if you set the console to Energy save mode instead of disconnecting the power cable at all.

    Try to UNPLUG POWER and pull the console out, turn it upside down, and then on the side, now plug back in , and see if any change to the tap sound, it doesn't sound like anything that could affect console performance, it sound like plastic or a wire
    just moving when you tap it.

    Is there any way you could try using a different HDMI cable with your current television?

    Try unplugging the HDMI cable before plugging in the power block. Once the HDMI cable is unplugged, plug in the power cable and then try turning on the console. If there is no problem when the HDMI cable is in, it is likely to be a problem with either the
    cable or the television.

    If it works fine when using other cables and a different television, try with the composite cable (3 colour cable) on the original television.

    If it works with the composite cable on the original television, it is likely to be a problem with the HDMI cable.

    If this is still a problem, try using the HDMI cable with a different television.

    If the HDMI cable causes no problem when using it with a different television, it is more likely to be a problem concerning the television.

    I hope that can be of some help, apologies if it doesn't make much sense, I tried to word it the best way I could :)
