Could a hard shutdown damage an Xbox?

    Hi all

Yesterday I was about to play a game on my new Xbox One X when the 6 number passcode popped up.

Somehow the controller was unresponsive, hence the only thing I could do was a "hard shutdown" (by pressing the device's power button for 10 seconds).

Currently everything is working as it should be, however I was wondering if a "hard shutdown" could potentially damage the Xbox One X or the internal HDD.

I read on Microsoft's own page that a "hard shutdown" is the perfect remedy for e.g. a frozen device, but the last thing I want is that such could result in errors or bad clusters/sectors on the internal HDD.

    Anyone knows?

    :)

  2. I’m really pissed about this

This can sometimes happen after a irregular shutdown due to loss of power. You may need to factory restore your Xbox to reverse what damage was caused by the abrupt power down.

I was connecting wirelessly to my WiFi just fine for a weeks, now it no longer connects.

    Hey there G 7ven!

Sorry to hear about the WiFi troubles.

Could you please try doing a hard shutdown on your Xbox One? You can do this by (when the console is turned on) holding down the glowing Xbox Logo on the front of your console (power button) for 10 seconds. This will shutdown the console.

After doing this, please try again =)

Could a hard shutdown damage an Xbox?

    Hi

Unfortunately sometime it is required to force console to shut down by holding the power button on the front of the console for 10 seconds. Carrying out a console hard reset should not cause any damage to the console and the fact that it has switched back
on and is working OK means there is nothing to worry about.

Many thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated.

I still don't really know why the issue I had happened.

After booting my console I started a game.

At the same time the 6 digit passcode popped up.

Suddenly only the white Xbox button of the remote worked. All the other buttons didn't respond anymore, hence I was unable to "type" my pin to unlock.

At the same time, the white button on the Xbox was flashing.

I waiting around 10 min but nothing changed so the only thing I could do do a hard shutdown.

After rebooting everything worked perfectly. I also checked if there was an update, but nothing at all.

Any clue why this could have happened? Could it be because the game was launched which was interfering with the passcode? Or?

    Thanks!
