'couch coop' not working on Xbox game pass games

Hello,

I'm having issues trying to play offline multiplayer on Xbox game pass. In short, any game that asks the second player to press the menu button to join doesn't work (doesn't allow them to join the game) - star wars battlefront 2, TMNTSR, Plants v Zombies, Unravel two, for example.

The second controller is signed into an account that doesn't have gold membership.

Any help on why this is doing this or any way to fix, or just an explanation as to why it doesn't work would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for the response. To be extra clear, I'm not curious about COOP in general, but couch coop in specific - two people playing seated next to each other with controllers plugged into the computer. Is that possible if the title supports couch/local COOP (e.g. 'It Takes Two' supports local coop on an Xbox console, so does the PC game pass version support the same feature?)

If you are playing via the cloud, only one player and one controller is supported at a time

Are these games installed on your console or are you playing them on the cloud? If they are on the cloud, that's why. Cloud Gaming does not support local multiplayer/co-op.

And what exact console do you have?

From the look of the graphics this could be a co op game (maybe even couch coop). If that is the case I will be running to pick it up....if it's single player, I'll pass.
