    Cortana not working with Xbox One Kinect


    I have the latest update and now none of the voice commands work. It won't respond to Hey Cortana or Xbox. It works once after reboot and then fails to work/respond after that. I recalibrated the Kinect sensor as well, but still doesn't work.

    Update: I tried switching to Cortana and saying "Hey Cortana, Xbox On," "Hey Cortana, turn on," and "Hey Cortana, turn the xbox on" several times and none of those commands worked. They used to work perfectly with Cortana on my old Xbox.

    At this point, I think there is either something wrong with my machine or that the Xbox One S does not support "Xbox On" commands. I think maybe the Kinect microphone is not active when the Xbox is off. Perhaps a problem with the implementation of the USB
    port or the Kinect Adaptor.

    Hello, do you have Cortana enabled and are using the "hey Cortana" commands ? If so try turning Cortana off and use the regular "xbox" commands to test if your Kinect then has better control.

    It's also a good choice to set up the Kinect again in the Kinect options on your Xbox One.

    Cortana is still in beta try using Cortana via mic it should work just fine had the same problem with my kinect

    There are several known issues with Cortana, this is one of them, sadly. The performance still has some issues, and it doesn't always recognize voice commands. I've even had my kinect completely disabled ever using Cortana.

    Make sure you give feedback through the xbox using 'Report a Problem' by holding down the Xbox button on your controller.

    This is exactly what's happening to me- Cortana works for 1 or 2 commands, and then sudden is only "Listening" but not hearing anything beyond "Hey Cortana." The "XBox..." voice feature was finally working perfectly for anything I did after the first year.
    What was the point of adding something that seems worse than the year-old commercials for Cortana on smartphones? The Kinect has been a great replacement for my handheld remote, in many cases. That suddenly stopped with Cortana added in. After this type of
    frustration, I may have to unhook everything, and rehook my system up the way the 360 was- off completely until I'm playing a game.

    Is this true death of the Kinect?

    Kinect will still work on the Xbox One with games but as for Cortana and Alexa, you will have to use your smart speaker, phone or PC. Cortana will not work with Kinect or a headset in the upcoming update.

    Using Webcam Mic for Cortana on Xbox

    Hello Pan,

    The webcam mic's will not work with Cortana. The program is set up to go through either a Kinect or headphone mic unfortunately. Maybe in the future they will have this feature available.

    With Cortana, you can use a headset with mic for voice control, in addition to the Kinect sensor. It works the same for both, with one exception: "Hey Cortana, Xbox on" only works with a Kinect. So you’ll have to turn on your Xbox with a controller
    if you’re using a headset.

    Cortana does not work!

    Scooter3303 - I am having the exact same difficulty. Cortana responds to "Hey Cortana" but doesn't hear anything after that. Typing information is useless as she "thinks" endlessly. The new update has been installed. Cortana was turned "on" and XBOX restarted.
    Internet is connected. My profile is signed in. XBOX has been through multiple full power cycles with Kinect cord plugged and unplugged. Kinect was successfully recalibrated multiple times. Cortana still doesn't work via the Kinect or my official XBOX One
    headset. Hoping for an update for this bug!
