Cortana has killed my XBOX experience

Cortana now tells my it needs to be connected when I ask it to do anything. Like watch TV or Pause

Even asking it to go home takes longer than it used to. This sucks. I used to say "XBOX watch TV" and boom tv pops up," XBOX watch SYFY" boom channel changes

No I have to says "Hey Cortana" why?? XBOX was fine. so "Hey Cortana watch tv" she has to think about it and then says she cant connect... I never had an issue before and it is currently streaming a video from my PC so the connection is fine. Xbox knew how
to turn the TV on....and try to pause something... it just don't work..... Cortana will make the thinking sounds and then give up. when you want to pause something you want it pause right then and there not a few seconds of thinking before nothing. this sucks.
I have gone back to the controller. This update has messed to Smart glass too. It crashes every 5-15 minuets... IDK why they did this. My XBOX was soo drilled in. I use it for everything in my living room but now everything is soo slow...I don't need to ask
my XBOX what time it is or if I should ware a jacket... I mean for real, I have a cell phone already and a computer. I don't NEED this on my GAMING CONSOLE again GAMING CONSOLE!!!!!!..well if it worked then fine whatever but it don't work.... this is BAD.
how is it that the update make things worse. This is slow, saying XBOX with commands works much better... Not a happy customer at all

Kinect stopped working after system update

I FIGURED IT OUT! For me at least. Go to settings/System/Cortana Settings/Other Privacy Settings/Speech. Make sure the box is checked that is named "Let xbox and cortana collect my speech info".

The update killed Cortana and this fixed it for me. Best of luck!

 

It's not a proper release. I expected it to not work as well as the old one did. I'm hoping on actual release its as quick as the old voice command worked.

 

they need improvements at minute its a test i think

 

I understand that this is a preview/beta, but if they knew it would be this bad, they could've at least given us the option of choosing the "Xbox" command or the "Hey Cortana" command. It has made the voice commands almost useless. I rarely look at these
forums because everything usually works. I only got on here today because I had to see if other people were as fed up with "Hey Cortana" as my fiancé and I are.

 

I am not yet impressed with Cortana on Xbox. I love her on my Pro 4 and my phone. I'm sure she'll get better

 

I agree. I cane here to say the same thing. Why move from the simple system of saying "XBOX blah blah" with instant results to "hey cortana" with rediculous lag. I used to use the "xbox record that" command all the time. Now trying to get Cortana to record
is slow and pretty much useless.

 

I haven't tried recording with the voice command yet, good to know.

I actually switched back to my old preview version to get "hey Xbox" back

I've just switched to Redstone and I agree with this fully. The rest of the OS update it's actually pretty nice. Cortana in comparison feels like when voice was first introduced during launch and was awful. If I had the choice of moving to Redstone with
Cortana and not moving ever again, I would pick the latter at the moment, it totally ruins voice control and the whole experience.

The main issues revolve around:

* The lag - commands just don't get recognised a lot of the time and it makes multiple Volume Up commands unbelievably tedious

* The length - Hey Cortana takes a lot longer to say than Xbox. I don't understand why it can't just be Cortana, which would be a bit better. It also makes more sense to be Xbox. What happens when Cortana is running on multiple devices and they can both
turn on and off (eventually)? It will be a complete mess

* The annoying revolving letters - you can tell she's got it wrong before she finishes (if an early word is incorrectly recognised), but you can't stop her while she's still parsing it

All these combined kill voice activation. Before, voice activation was only slightly less efficient than reaching for a manual control method, but it was kinda cool, so I used it lots. Now it's massively inefficient to use voice control and it ruins everything.

 

I switched back to the newer update with Cortana. And I'm just avoiding using her for now...

I do keep trying to do a few things. but still not impressed

 

Personally, Cortana is my best friend on PC going to go and try to play with her on Xbox soon.

Yup, happened to me with my laptop. And yes, it was a mess.

 

I still have yet to use her on my Xbox really. Has she gotten better?
