corrupt data?

I was playing civilization revolution earlier today and partway through the game my Xbox froze. about 2 minutes later a pop up says that the system has corrupt data and/or that I may be missing an update (for system or game I don't know it doesn't specify)
and when I closed the pop up my xbox shut down and a 'red ring of death'. I was connected to LIVE so I don't know how I would miss an update so I decided to play mass effect 1 and the xbox says the same thing. I have never had any problems with my xbox slim
but seeing how these are some of my most played games, I would like to know how to resolve this issue.

started to get an error code this profile is corrupt reset to 5 can anyone answer this one ive just set up new account as other suspended and have downloaded profile again what ya think guys and girls thanks

 

this is in addition to the previous post by me, I got the same message just now trying to move data from my usb drive to my 120GB hard drive this is the message word for word "some xbox 360 features are missing or corrupt. a system update is required to
replace them. your console will now restart. if the problem persists there may be a problem with your storage device." when I hit the option for restart console all it does is turn off and give me the red ring so how can I fix this.

 

Try Formatting your Hard drive By going to settings Storage Clicking Y on Hard drive and Then Format it will restore your xbox if you wish to backup anything like dlc content and Profile that isnt corrupted according to your hard drive. Just transfer it
to your USb and reset your console thats all I can say that will work

 

alright then thanks for the suggestion I will try it. Since my last post it has become apparent that it truly is my added hard drive. earlier I wasn't sure so we will see. again many thanks
