Cord won't stay in wired controller

I'm having this issue with a recently purchased wired controller. I'm not sure why these controllers aren't hard-wired, or at least come with some sort of snap-lock connector on the cable, rather than the same mini-USB that comes on the wireless controller,
but it regularly disconnects. Is there any sort of fix for this? As it is, it doesn't seem to be engineered particularly well. It seems to be just a wireless controller minus the wireless ability, with no thought put into its own functionality. The existing
connection really doesn't work. I do not sit far enough away from my Xbox One to warrant a wireless controller, and thus thought a wired controller with no need for batteries would better suit my needs. But as is, it's more trouble than it's worth.

shortening Xbox 360 controller cord

Hello, I just bought the a wired xbox 360 controller for laptop, I find the cord extremely long for my needs. Is there a way to shorten the cord?

 

Have you tried a different micro-USB cable? You can find these cables nearly everywhere, even at the dollar store. Perhaps the current cable you have has some wear, with slight movements causing a physical disconnection at the port?

Alternative solutions to consider would be to get rechargeable batteries (Play & Charge Kit, or rechargeable AA's), or get a third-party Xbox One controller (all are hard-wired).

 

Well, don't I feel the fool? I went to pull out the extended warranty that I had purchased with the controller - yes, it had gotten to that point - and lo and behold, there was a cable in the box along with the receipt. Apparently, we had not used the cable
that came with the controller. This wire seems to work MUCH better. Thanks for the suggestion!
