Copy digital pre-order game to external disk to copy to another Xbox One

After a bit of advice.

Does anybody know if you can copy a digital pre-order game (once installed) to an external disk and then copy it to another console?

Example would be - friend downloads HMCC and day one patch on his console and copies it to an external disk. I take the disk and install it on my console (or leave it on the external if needed) then when my physical copy arrives, I just put the disc in to
verify I own the game and save on install and patch download time.

Would this have any effects on his ability to play the game on his console and would he need to sign in on mine to allow the game to be copied or played from the external, even though I would have a physical copy by that time?

If anyone could advise on the above it would be helpful.

I'd be taking more of an issue with the pre-order incentive through the Microsoft store if you buy disk based ($10 digital credit) vs buying a digital copy of Titanfall and getting nothing. Way to support the digital format...

You can use external hard drives to copy games between consoles.

However, in order to play you either need to have the disc inserted or, if digital, be signed into a profile that owns the game (or on the Home console of someone who does).

If your friend has downloaded the game, he would be able to play on his console (as he owns it) while you copy it to yours using an external hard drive. However, you will not be able to play on yours (as you don't own the digital) until you get the disc.
Once you get the disc, you won't need to install anything as it's all already there.

External hard drives must be at least 256GB in size (maximum 16TB) and USB3.0. Do not use one with files you want to keep as formatting for the Xbox One wipes the drive of all content.

Ya what you did was skip the instructions

First and foremost disk copies cannot be installed on a xbox series s

Second you have to uninstall your install from the disk from the external drive first then buy the digital copy

Digital copies are completely different from disk copies

Installing it on a external.drive will show as owned but not the digital copy since you installed using the disk however your serirs s cannot validate without q drive

If the pre order was a digital copy then go to the Xbox Store and search for Destiny 2 - Beta to pre download it. If it is for a hard copy then keep an eye on the email associated with your order for the beta key.

Disk copies of games are recommended on internal so the console can access it faster and easier as for digital copies they are usually meant for external HDD to save up space.

You trouble may be that the disk copies refuse to work when saved to external. So what i want you to do is go to My games & apps - What ever disk copies you own - Manage game - Installed - hover over the main game - press select - Move

Once done sign out and re-sign in.
