Converting aus MS cards to us MS cards

So, my friend leaves for the us tomorrow, and so a few of us got him 50 dollar xbox one cards for going away, because we knew he loves his xbox one. but since he will be in america, can the aus cards still work?? or is there a way to convert them from the
aus dollar on them to us dollars?? as he doesnt want to waste all the cards

Microsft is phasing out Points in Windows 8

I have half price ms points cards that I have not added to my Xbox yet. I assume that there will be a transition period where your points will be converted into MS cash. The PS3 has cards that you can buy to purchase content, free of game companies knowing/storing/losing credit card numbers. There are Wii points, but I've barely bothered with them. I hope Xbox rewards still works, firing out MS cash instead of points every month.

Either use a vpn and pay by card, or go to the Russian MS store and buy Xbox Live Gift cards and then use the credit from them.

The cards are region locked to Australian accounts. You may need to call support, realistically he could add the credit to his Aussie account before he leaves and then when he is in the us change his account region to a us account. Whether the credit also
gets converted is the question though. Id call just to be sure. He could also keep his account as Australian but he will be limited on what he can purchase as digital stuff is region locked.

Do not add the currency and then change regions, he will lose all the money:
support.xbox.com/.../change-region

As Auswulf has said, you should be able to add the currency and still access the Australian marketplace when connected to the internet over there or spend the money before he leaves.

Ah thanks for the info Digital please disregard the swapping regions with the credit applied to your friends account. The other way seems to be the only way.

Soccer is correct, any MS points cards that still exist automatically convert into a dollar value balance on your MS account. Also, there is no limitation as to what type of content can be purchased with your MS account - account balance, PayPal, or credit
card, they all function as currency.

MS Points have been retired so that people can now use a monetary system for transactions. You can still purchase MS Point cards from your local retailer (until next year) and redeem them to your account. However, they will be converted to your local currency
for use on the marketplace. Other than that, your only other option would be to add a credit card or paypal to your account.
