controllers wont work frozen on update screen

Thanks for posting on the Xbox forums. We understand that your Xbox One controllers are not able to be detected by your console, and the console is stuck on an update screen. We recommend

power cycling the console by holding down the power button on the console for ten seconds. Are your controllers responsive when you access the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter? We'll provide steps explaining how to access the troubleshooter. You must use the
d-pad of the controller to move around the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter. Be sure to let us know the results

How to access the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter:

1. Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.
   
2. Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.
3. Press and hold the BIND button (located below the Xbox button on the console) and the
   EJECT button (located on the front of the console), and then press the
   Xbox button  on the console.
   
   Note The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition does not have an
   EJECT button. You can bring up the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter on this console by holding only the
   BIND button (steps 3 & 4) and then pressing the Xbox button
   .
   
4. Continue holding the BIND and
   EJECT buttons for 10-15 seconds.
5. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the
   BIND and EJECT buttons after the second power-up tone.
   
6. The console should power up and take you directly to the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter.

Lately I have noticed that when I turn on my controller after it's been off for the night and I leave the TV screen and go home, my home screen freeze and my controller wont do nothing. I let the controller sit turned on for about a minute and then all of
a sudden it will work and perfrom all actions I did while it was frozen...... ?? I have updated my controller, no hard reset but have shut the console off by accident.

When the console is turned on the frozen screen is the only thing that comes up and none of the controller buttons work.

My kinect is still in the box, never been touched. After the initial update there was a long wait, but I didn't power off my console or even touch the controller because it's better to wait and pray than to end up with a brick. After the long wait, everything
turned out fine for me. I hope the OP works out his problem, but I think that what he thought was frozen was the same as my long wait while the firmware finished updating.

OP, was it "frozen" on the green Xbox screen or a black screen *after* you downloaded the new firmware? If so, that's part of the update process and you powered down your console mid-firmware update.

I had the exact same problem. After some experimenting this is the workaround that worked for me:

1) Game is frozen in inventory.

2) Disconnect controller (I actually removed/reinserted my batteries since its faster).

3) Reconnect controller.

4) Notice that the game exited the inventory screen and is no longer frozen.

5) Save game.

6) Load game.
