Controllers Frequently Disconnecting

Just because the sticky asks that we create a new post for our individual issue:

What exactly is happening with your controller?: It is randomly disconnecting during use. A battery pull or a very long wait will reconnect the controllers.

Does it happen during a specific activity? I have had the issue happen while playing Titanfall and Forza 5

What have you tried so far? The issue began after the most recent controller firmware update. It never happened before that point. Things I have tried so far:

* Bought a second controller, same issue

* Moved my console, same issue

* Re-applied the firmware update, same issue

* There is no one else close to me who owns an XB1, so I can't take it anywhere to try. Several remote coworkers have the same issue with their consoles.

* Did the silly "clear alternate MAC address" nonsense troubleshooting step found here in the forums.

General other comments:

*I sit maybe 6 feet away from my console with a direct line of sight.

*The console sits in an open-faced cabinet below my television.

*My Kinect is on the top edge of the TV on a mount.

*I use Eneloop rechargable batteries, but I have the same issue whether or not I use fresh new alkaline batteries.

*I use the headset adapter with my Polk Audio 4Shots. This issue occurs with or without the chat adapter connected.

*The console is connected via a wired ethernet cable to my home network.

I bought my console at Costco. I will be returning it in the next few months if MS hasn't yet made progress on this. This is BEYOND ridiculous that MS has *** up something so essential as a wireless controller. I expect more from a company when I pay $500
for something.

Controller disconnecting

Mine is a XB1, about two years of usage, I have two controllers and couple weeks ago both controllers started disconnecting without apparent reason.

I've tried updating the console and the controllers, and also did a clear cache procedure, hold the power button until it shuts down, and it still disconnecting.

Sometimes it works for a while without disconnecting, but other times it happens more frequently and I get really annoyed with that.

Is there anything else I can do?

Sorry to hear about the controller disconnect issue, I can definitely understand how frustrating that could be. We appreciate the feedback and information that you have provided.

It is possible that you may be experiencing disconnect issues from interference from another wireless device. I recommend checking out our Xbox
One Wireless Controller disconnects page to verify that one of the listed objects might be causing interference.

If this issue continues to persist and all troubleshooting steps have been exhausted, I would recommend having your console repaired through our Online Service Center.

 

Yes, I went through all of that first.

The only device listed on that page that could be interfering is a wireless router. Am I to understand that having a wireless router is prohibited near an XB1?

I won't be seeking a repair from Microsoft. I'll be either returning or exchanging my console at Costco very soon.

 

Does this happen pretty often? Would it be possible to completely unplug your wireless router and then play some Forza for a while to see if it still happens? Can you try changing the channel that your router broadcasts over? It would be good to eliminate
the router for sure to make sure it isn't some interference issue.

 

Changed router channel...same deal.

I played for three days (1 hour each) with no issue, and then this morning it happened again during Titanfall one time.

I'm not going to keep my router off all the time.

I'd like to express my disbelief and honest indignation that this system should have any issue operating in the same environment as ANY of the unlicensed 2.4 or 5.8ghz spectrum. I should be able to operate on any available channel and not have to worry
about the XB1 playing nicely. As a technician that works in both the RF and wireline fiber world each and every day, I understand where you're going with troubleshooting. Again, the idea though that I'd have to pick a certain wireless channel or distance
from router is ludicrous.

Guess how many of my other 30+ wireless devices have issues operating in my environment...that's right, just one....and it has Microsoft written all over it.

My XB1 is also plugged in via ethernet cable, so the only wifi running to interfere is the AWESOME choice of MS running WiFi Direct to the controllers.

Please forgive my attitude as it is not a personal attack on you, but simply my frustration with MS.

Remember if your in the UK and the console isn't performing as it should your entitled to a full refund from place of purchase go to the sale of goods act

Apart from that I know you will keep it so let's just hope a fix is on the Horizon for this as it's doing hundreds of peoples heads in !!!

I understand you're just giving the usual pre-approved written response BS, but that is ludicrous. LOL, I mean c'mon man this issue has been around for 8 months on various hardware/software versions. Microsoft needs to man up and tell us why the $60 controllers
aren't reliably working with the $500 console we have bought. I really like my Xbox One as a media center, however, when I actually use it to play games it just becomes a frustrating mess because of these issues.

 

Having the same issue. Controller disconnects 3-4 times an hour while sitting less than 2 feet away with a clear line of sight. Have already sent the console in to be serviced once before when it got inexplicably bricked while playing a BluRay. Not about
to pay to send it in for the second time in 3 months. Refund please? Or you could just save me some time, forego the refund, and send me a PS4 directly.

 

Just got my Xbox one 5 days ago and this happens all the time, sometimes 10-15 times in an hour. I can set my controller on top of my Xbox and watch it turn on and off without even touching it. No solution? Really?

 

Upcoming troubleshooting step: Have you tried standing on one foot while holding down the A button?

 

Still an issue even after the latest update. I'm getting a strong "You're ***, and the only way to fix it is to get a new one" vibe from this issue.
