Controllers don't stay connected even via USB

I purchased an Elite console bundle in November and about a month ago the controller started to randomly disconnect. I tried all the solutions from power cycling and updating to taking it to a Microsoft store to have the OS re-installed. Finally I purchased
a new controller to test and it happened with that one as well so I tested both controllers on my PC and a friends console and they work perfectly. Is there a fix for this that does't involve sending the console in for repair?

DESPERATE for help !

for anyone with controller issues, this popped up in tonight's preview update.
A fix to address an issue for users who find their controller will no longer connect via a wireless connection, and only works over USB. If this has occurred to you, after taking this system update, you will be able to connect your controller via a USB cable and wait a few seconds before unplugging it. This will recover your controller and you will be able to connect wirelessly. It is expected that subsequent controller firmware updates will fail. This will be addressed in a later system update.

Faulty controller issue

It seems there has been a lot of other gamers with the issue of connecting/disconnecting controllers. I bought a new controller because my original one disconnects constantly even with a usb cable and it doesn't matter what game I play they both won't
stay connected. I also had a problem with my Kinect turning on and off all the time (which is away beng repaired). I now think the problems are related via the console itself. My Kinect disconnects, both of my controllers won't stay connected so the issue
is obviously a faulty console which I think I'll be sending in with my Kinect. BTW, I have followed all troubleshooting tips with no results. I don't remember the 360 having so many issues on start up...

My controllers were having the same problem, I had to take out the batteries while syncing with the system hard boot the system (hold power button on console until the system shuts off) put batteries back in and try resyncing one more time.

if all else fails reformat the xbox system and it should be good to go.

if not the xbox system may need to be serviced so I would call xbox support after those steps.

Yes, the controller was connected to the console via USB, but now when I try to connect the controller via USB, it doesn't turn on, it doesn't even light up

Yes it will. You can connect the controller to your PC via WiFi or Bluetooth and can connect via your plug and charge kit to charge the batteries while you're playing.

But for playing on PC you don't even need the play and charge kit, you can just connect your controller via micro USB cable to your PC even if your batteries are drained as while connected via USB it wont use batteries.

Hello, id recommend connecting to the front USB port on your Xbox console your controller via USB cable and trying to connect it again once you've done this

I have also had a similar problem. My controller will not sync with the system regardless of the steps I take. Even when I connect it via a micro USB the controller will be connected then stop being connected. The only thing I can think of that might fix
it, is updating it but I can't update it because it won't stay connected.
