Controller's connection to system

So I've had an Xbox One S for about a week or two now and everything has been perfect while learning the new system. After class I come to my dorm and wanted to play something, I used my controller to turn on the system and it starts up perfectly fine. But
once it is on it doesn't respond anymore. The controller won't change windows or let me start up a game or anything, they system isn't freezing because the home screen is still actively moving showing updates and news. I pressed the button on the controller
and system to establish a connection between the two and that doesn't work either. What do I do?

DESPERATE for help !

for anyone with controller issues, this popped up in tonight's preview update.
A fix to address an issue for users who find their controller will no longer connect via a wireless connection, and only works over USB. If this has occurred to you, after taking this system update, you will be able to connect your controller via a USB cable and wait a few seconds before unplugging it. This will recover your controller and you will be able to connect wirelessly. It is expected that subsequent controller firmware updates will fail. This will be addressed in a later system update.

Who sells the best Xbox One controller to be used wired?

Who sells the best Xbox One controller to be used wired? The original controller's USB connection is very, very poorly designed. Original wireless controller is eating way to many batteries. Wireless in my opinion is a joke.

Hi

Can you please try and carry out a hard reset by pressing and holding the power button on the front of the console for 5-10 seconds, once the console has shut down please remove the console from the wall outlet for 2 minutes.

Once you have done this please plug the console back in and power it on. Hopefully everything should be okay once you power the console back on.

Welcome to the world of xBox One controller hell. Lots of people having the same issue, pointed to the same useless solutions with no real fix from MS. It's shameful.

Thanks for coming to the forums with your issue. Here is a guide for connecting 360 controllers. Have you tried connecting these controllers
with a USB? You may need to do a
system rollback, but you need a controller to connect.

If you notice four blinking lights on the wireless controller, it means there is a connection problem between your controller and the console. Fixing the problem involves disconnecting and then re-connecting your wireless controller to your system.

If the controller is not connected by a cable, and you have another one, I would try another controller.

The system should never be sending you shocks.

I would be extremely careful, or would stop using the system altogether until you get the system/controller checked out.
