controller xbox one for PC does not work!

Goodevening,

I bought a new laptop (windows 10 all updated) and a new xbox one controller (with wireless adapter for PC).

I follow the instruction to update the controller so I just downloaded the Xbox Accessories app and then I connected my controller through the wireless adapter. At first the app saw my controller and it said that an update was needed. I started the update
and all of a sudden it said that an error occourred. So i restart the controller and now the Xbox Accessories app does not see anymore the controller so I cannot update it.

If i try to play to any game on steam (the witcher 3 or metal gear solid 5) it does not work.

I tried already to restart the laptop, the controller, to unistall and reinstall the Xbox accessories app but i still cannot see on the Xbox Accessories app the controller. I also tried to connect it with an USB driver, the laptop recognize it and it installed
the drivers, but the Xbox App still does not see it and it won't work with games.

please could you help me?

I have nobody with an xbox one console to ask him to try to pair the controller and update it from there.

Xbox One wireless controller issues

Does it work when you plug it into the console? If not have you assigned it to a profile?

xbox one headset with windows 10?

I have read that the standard xbox live headset (that comes in the box with xbox one) should work when plugged into an xbox one controller using the official MS wireless adapter and windows 10.

I just upgraded to windows 10, but the headset does not seem to work when plugged into the xbox one controller (tried testing in steam voice settings).

The controller works fine, if I try to update drivers it says they are all up to date. I noticed the xbox controller does not show up in device manager, only the wireless adapter does -- is that normal? controller works fine with all games, this is for
pc games not xbox streaming. Do I somehow need the xbox app for this? I thought it would just work with windows 10.

I've never used a headset with pc before, so it might be something else I'm not thinking of (new to pc gaming). any help is appreciated, has anyone ever gotten this combination to work before? thanks!

What happens if you start up the Xbox Accessory app first, and then plug in your Xbox One Controller via USB? If you're able to connect with the steps there, try updating your controller with the steps over on
