Controller won't power on after failing update

I went to turn on my xbox and my controller desynced (don't know how that happened). I plugged it in with a microusb-usb and the controller powered on and was connected. When I unplugged the cable, the controller still wouldn't connect, so I plugged it back
in and went to update the controller. The update failed immediately and now the controller won't power on at all, whether plugged in or with new batteries.

I'm in the preview program so I've been getting lots of new updates, I don't know if that could have something to do with it.

Does anyone have any idea what happened or how to fix it?

Xbox One & 360 similar controller powering on console problems

so when the console does a system update when the X1 is on "instant on" the first time you go back to power on the console you have to manually hit the console button correct? the controller won't power the console on the first time after the update?

Hey there, OHYEAH!

Sorry to see any issues with the A/V device control on your console! Doing a hard reset (holding the power button for 8 seconds) will resolve this, however it appears that it will only fix it once when you are set to Instant On. If you set your console to
Energy Saving, it should not happen again after doing it one more time.

Mine failed once right after the update, I turned off the console, powered it back up and after the console completely powered back up, I then turned on the controller and all was good to go.

Didn't have to resynk the controller at all.

I'm having similar issues on my xbox one S. This has been happening since the Oct 13 Update, which failed.

At first I couldn't get anything to work. So, I unplugged the console, waited 30 seconds, plugged it back in.

Now I can get it to come up, but I have to press the power button manually after I power on the controller.

Of course this initializes the console from scratch. Kind of a pain. Until the update I was able to hold the xbox button on the controller and the console would power up. Powering off still seems to work from the controller. The update status on the controller
says the last update failed, but there is no new update available to load. Waiting on new update to see if that helps.

How do u know that is a bad drive? Iim probably having the same problem. The console won't power up after I shut it off for the stupid update fail. Now the power comes on for like 5 sec. And turns off again. Is that what a bad drive seems like?
