Controller won't connect

Yesterday, my controller died. The guys who were playing on it plugged it into the console using a USB cord. They told me once I got back to my house and I replaced the batteries. However, the controller won't connect to my xbox unless it's plugged in with
the USB cord. I've tried resyncing it multiple times with no luck. I've tried updating the controller, but it is already up to date. I've tried power cycling the xbox but still no connection/syncing. I don't believe there is anything around that could interfere
with the syncing, I've also tried unplugging the USB cord from the console as well as my controller, but it still won't reconnect. I can connect the controller to the console using the USB but as soon as I unplug the cord from the controller the controller
can't connect anymore. I bought the xbox and controller new about a month ago, so it seems too early to be having technical difficulty due to wear. Using the USB cord is a pain cause it's only 3 feet long, any suggestions?

Controller issue

Need help, 1st time this has happened. My controller won't connect to Xbox. The Xbox light on controller flashes but won't connect??

Controller won't connect

My Xbox controller won't connect to my Xbox One except if it's literally on top of my Xbox or connected via a USB cable. I tried everything I saw online and nothing seems to work. My Xbox is not old ( I have it since March 2017 ) and it has no problem at
all. My controller is New I bought it last week (atm that I post this). I have 3 controllers and only the one that came with the Xbox is connecting and the microphone/headset doesn't work for some reason. I can play with a wire for now but I bought the controllers
wireless so I didn't need to be next to my Xbox. Thank you!

Thanks for the update, but. If you connect the other Xbox controller (with drift issues)
It works as expected? (Ignoring the drift)

May I know if you can try downgrading the controller firmware?

My old controller is subject to drift issues, which apparently often effect new Microsoft controllers based on what I've read. It connects and "works" with my Xbox though, even though it's a pain.

I tried connecting the new controller to the Xbox via USB cable, it rumbled and turned on, and it appeared to be connected to the Xbox, but none of the buttons worked or affected the movie that was playing, including the home button.

As far as I know, there are no troubleshooting steps I can do bc the controller doesn't work, it appears to connect but the buttons don't work.
