Controller warranty

I want to spray paint my Xbox one controller but taking it apart will void the warranty. If I spray paint the controller without taking it apart will that still void the warranty?

Yes as long as it's within a year you can submit a repair and have it sent to get fixed. Make sure your console is registered on your account though. You can this by logging into xbox.com, clicking on my account and selecting manage devices. You can also
submit a repair on that page too.

Depends how long you've had it as may be out of warranty already as you only get 3 months warranty with controllers

 

Does this include controllers that came with the Xbox? or does the 3 month warranty only apply to controllers that were bought separately?

 

Hi, this varies from region to region but it's my understanding that in the UK any bundled accessories such as a controller carry the same warranty as the Xbox itself, if you take a look at this link.

Without prejudice to any statutory warranty to which You may be entitled under any local law applicable to You, and unless any such law provides for a longer term, Microsoft offers this Warranty, for a term of one (1) year from the purchase date of such
Xbox One from an authorized retailer, and one (1) year for Accessories purchased from an authorized retailer.

(b) “Accessory” means a new Microsoft branded Xbox 360 or Xbox One hardware accessory purchased from an authorized retailer.

(c) "Warranty Period" for Xbox One means one (1) year from the date You purchased it; and for Accessories, means one (1) year from the date You purchased it, subject to article 2 below.

So as I read that any accessory carries a 1 year warranty irrespective of it being purchased with the Xbox or afterwards. At least in the UK but the warranty offered does vary from country to country due to applicable laws in that country.

 

I would also suspect that painting the controller would invalidate any warranty offered.

 

I'm in UK and I'm pretty sure it's only 3 month warranty you get

I can only interpret what it says on the Support website regarding the UK warranty as a year for the Xbox and any accessory purchased with or after the Xbox. It's there in black and white, take a minute to read that link and you'll see.

Look at the US website and things get very different.

g) "Warranty Period" for Xbox One means 1 year from the date You purchased it; and for Accessories, means 90 days from the date You purchased it.
