Controller Update for Stereo Headset Adapter Fails

Using Turtle Beach x12's.

I have followed the instructions verbatim. I have tried with 2 different controllers to no avail I get message There was a problem updating your controller.

I was able to update the controllers (analog sticks) but when I plug in the headset adapter, I get prompted to update the controller and I am aware this is a separate update.

• I have unplugged the batteries
• Ensured only one controller plugged in
• Plugged in the headset adapter then attach controller via micro usb
• Power cycled the xbox by holding down for 5 secs and leaving off for 10
• Tried with mic unmated and muted
• Tried with volume and no volume coming into headset

I have searched up and down can can not find any solutions as of yet, and I don't see anyone else reporting this issue.

I found one post that stated there is another update coming out tomorrow (7th) for the headsets, but I am reading other folks with x12's are already updated and running.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is going to sound crazy, but have you tried the update with the batteries plugged IN? I know that originally, the update info said to unplug the batteries and then plug in the USB, but when I just looked at the Xbox One Controller Update support page,
it doesn't say anything about unplugging the batteries anymore. So, that must have changed.

I have tried with batteries plugged in, still no joy. (just did that again)

I have also tried manually kicking off the update.

I can even get to the update page, unplug the headset and kick off the update, and it will say controller updated successful (which means the analog update was already installed)

Anytime I leave the adapter in though, I get the failure message.

I have the same issue. I updated the controller before I had the headset adapter, now when I plug in the headset adapter, I get prompted to update and it fails. However, I had a friend bring his working headset adapter over and it works fine with my controller.
Could it be that the adapter itself needs to be updated as part of the controller update?

 

It could be possible that there are a bad batch of adapters out there... is the bios that is being updated actually on the adapter itself?

 

Lithos, when you friend brought over his adapter, did you have to update your controller or did it just work?

 

I had the same issue. I unplugged the adapter and it went to 5 % before saying it couldn't continue and bricked my controller.

 

It sounds like the controller update also updates the headset adapter as the instructions state plug in headset/adapter before updating . So if you have updated the controller with out the headset adapter plugged in its possible that the console will think
the controller is updated but not recognize that the adapter isnt and then fail or say that the controller is upto date . The only way around this maybe to get a new controller or a controller that hasnt been updated and try the update again . Or try the
headset adapter in a friends controller that has had the update done and see if it works

 

StaticMG - When I plugged my friend's headset adapter into my controller, it just worked, no prompt. Then I unplugged it and plugged my adapter in again and got the prompt to update the controller.

 

It sounds like the firmware is actually in the adapter. Z0n3y, there are lots of people out there that have updated their controllers firmware without the adapter then updated with the adapter at a later time. I am starting to think the actual adapter
is bad.

 

The LOT#/Date for this adapter is 1406

 

StaticMG - I'm not home so I can't check mine... I'm thinking I can try and get my hands on a controller that hasn't been updated yet to see if that fixes the issue. I'm also going to try bringing the adapter to that friend's house and plug it in to his
controller to see what's going to happen. I'm just incredibly frustrated by this whole experience.

 

It is incredibly frustrating especially when you shell out 27$ for an "adapter" that is a brick in a box. Not to mention how many hours I have put into trying to get it to work. When you buy a MS product, there is a small chance that is simply will not
work. That is a risk I am willing to take because I do love my xbox
