controller software update?

I got my first new One (S model 1TB) and after I signed in and did a system update it said there is an update for the controller and told me to not move it while it updated. I have never heard of a controller software update what was it for I am just curious
as I said I never saw it before.

How can I rollback an update on my controller to a previous version?

The latest update causes issues when I use my headset HyperX Cloud headset to listen to the game, and party chat.

Using the same headset on other devices works as it should. I've tried it phones and computers.

I've also tried my headset on another 3.5mm jack controller that was not updated. This worked.

To me, this means the issue is with the controller hardware or software.

I think it is software related because I am able to listen to my own voice through the headset when the certain setting is turned on, on the xbox.

I've tried the recommended steps to update the controller but this doesn't help.

Unless anyone can help me, my next thing to try would be to complain about a defective product that is still under warranty.

Any suggestions?

3.5mm Controller Software Downgrade

Can't edit so posting it here.

The problem is that I can no longer talk, listen to party chat and listen to game chat on the same headset as I once could.

I can listen to game chat and party chat on the same headphones, but the xbox/controller doesn't send the audio form my microphone to any service.

People in my party can not hear me, and when I record messages, there is nothing recorded.

I can, however, hear my own voice when a certain setting is turned on, on the xbox. (I can't remember the name of this setting right now)

My mic is not muted in any hardware control or any xbox setting that I know of.

It is just a firmware (software) update to improve/add functionality or patch issues the controller might have. Updating a controller is really not different than updating any other device.

The controller will have an update occasionally.

I thought that was it, but I just never heard of firmware for controllers before thanks for the info

Yea. This is not going to work for me. I have jumped ship over to Ubuntu. I am currently on version 21.04. All the quality issues of Microsoft and bloat/ad-ware drove me out.

I have been testing. In a virtual machine. gnome-boxes, I booted up xbox accessories. The application within the virtual environment does recognize the controller and works without any issues on bluetooth. When I go and try configure the controller, it says I need to connect via the wire. The issue with that is, while bluetooth works great in the virtual environment, while wired the application does not recognize my controller.

I then tried going to vmware, but it is having issue right now. I am fitting to try virtual box next. Why does the controller even need to be updates?! I find that to be absolutely ridiculous.

When you update your controller with the latest software, you get important controller improvements, just as there are updates to your PC, mobile devices, games, etc.

You cannot update your controller or customize via Bluetooth, only with an Xbox Wireless Adapter or with the USB cable.

You may want to check if your drivers or PC is up to date. Not sure how it works with Ubuntu, as Xbox Accessories is only available on Windows 10 & 11.

Perhaps if you have another laptop or PC running windows you can update your controller from there, then use it again on your main PC.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your controllers.

The thumb stick getting stuck in one position is not a feature. However, you can update the controller on the Xbox console or PC. You can update it to see if that resolves your issue. If it does not, and you still have a problem with your controller, start another return and replace again, explaining the issue with your new one.

Update your controller on a Windows 10/11 PC by using the Xbox Accessories app:

If you don’t already have the app installed, get it in the: Microsoft Store
Open the Xbox Accessories app.
Connect your Xbox Wireless Controller by using a USB cable or the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.
When the controller is connected, you'll see the message Update Required if an update is mandatory. Install the update.

Note: Updating the controller over Bluetooth is not supported.

Update your controller on an Xbox console:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories, and then select the controller you want to update.
On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller.
If it says “Update,” select Firmware version, and then follow the steps provided.
