Controller right stick drift after update

    Hi All,

I also am having the same issue as others with my older style XB 1 controller. The right stick is now drifting up. It appears to be related to the latest console/controller firmware update, as I didn't have any drift before the early August update. (The latest
updates also did not fix it.)

Console is currently running firmware 10.0.14393.1045 (non-preview program). Older controller, model 1537, is also using the latest firmware 2.3.2381.0 for that model.

It's almost impossible to play any games that require you to aim (Fallout, Just Cause 3, etc). Even the Subnautica preview. You constantly have to correct for the drift, which is aggravating when the aim has a mind of its own. LOL

I've tried doing a hard reset, as has been suggested, and even re-calibrating through the Windows control panel. All to no avail.

I've spent a week or so now scouring the internet for an answer (which doesn't at all appear to be hardware related).

I resorted to buying a new white Xbox One-S controller and it works fine...before updating. Currently running firmware 3.1.1209.0. I am waiting for a fix before risking it, as others have reported charging and connection problems. Anyone else still have
    a similar experience?

    :)

  2. Controller: Right stick drift

    Hey there Kyowah1331!

Sorry to hear about the controller drift issue. We are currently looking into this issue in this thread.
If you haven't already, please try all of the troubleshooting steps listed in the thread. Feel free to make a post in there, as we will be providing any updates we receive in that thread. Thanks in advance!

    Controller: Right stick drift

i have this problem too and alot of folks with me. I think that microsoft have to do something bout it. If i'm not mistaken it's a software problem so it must be easy to fix. I tried the solution microsoft offered thats the maually shutdown the console unplug
it wait for five minutes plug it in and update the controller. Nah thats not it, i think that they need to clear the controller from all the updates but that seems impossible so if there's anyone with a solution. Would be helpfull coz buying another controller
again and again is not really a (fair) option. Maybe microsoft is reading this mssg too and comes with a solution, would be great. thnx in advance

  4. Controller right stick drift after update

I've had similar experiences. Twice in fact, both fixed in way's I wouldn't have thought would work.

The first was a Play and Charge battery of all things, after replacing it the drift went away.

The second appeared to be a dodgy USB cable, after replacing the cable it fixed it.

Try both of those and come back with the results.

Hi Snip3R, thanks for the quick response. This is a weird one, for sure.

I actually don't use a play and charge setup, just rechargeable double AAs, and use the USB cable only for controller firmware updates. I've had my One for a couple years now, and never had a problem with my controller or the firmware updates until August.

I read somewhere on reddit to download the Controller Tester app from the Xbox store. When I tested my original XB1 controller using it, after about a 10 second delay, you could see the right stick drift upward slightly to the 40 mark or so and stop. Correcting
it does the same thing, slight delay, and then upward drift to the 40 mark. From this, it doesn't appear to be the joystick mechanism itself causing the drift, but the firmware or console firmware, perhaps. And even further, maybe for only certain model
controllers, like mine. Controller right stick drift after update :)

EDIT: Adding more details... Thoughts on when a firmware update might be available, guys?

  7. Hi BearmanX62!

We're sorry to hear that you're still having trouble with your controller. Have you read through

    the troubleshooter
for Xbox One controller issues? Unfortunately, stick drift issues like the one you're describing generally require a repair or replacement. You mentioned you're using third party rechargeable batteries, we recommend using normal AA batteries
or an official Xbox Charge Kit.

If changing the batteries doesn't appear to help your issue, we recommend a repair or replacement as outlined in the troubleshooter.

Let us know how it goes!

    Hi Miss G!

Appreciate your response as the first I have gotten in an official capacity. Controller right stick drift after update :)

From all the extensive research and troubleshooting I have done, it does not appear this is a hardware or power issue. Others have mentioned similar symptoms (as well as a few others; connection issues, not charging, kinect weirdness) after the early August
update. Using a USB cable to power the controller works just fine (sans batts), but the drift issue remains, of course. I still believe this is a firmware issue and will not be updating my One S white controller to the latest version.

I suppose I will just be patient and wait for the next console/controller update. Or even do a factory reset, which I don't think will help.

Couldn't agree more, Nelomelo. I'm choosing to focus my efforts here on the community forums, rather than through chat or wasting any efforts on repair. I could do it myself, as others have done. But I honestly think it's software. Controller right stick drift after update )

When you experience stick drift, the analog module is shot and needs to be replaced. Research YouTube for the repair tutorial and Amazon sells the parts and tools. It looks easy, even for a novice, but take note that a hotter soldering tool is needed (60
watt), as the higher temp solder is used on the circuit boards.

Bearman just trying to let people know stop paying for repairs all they do is send u another one that was not working for some else.if people would read these forums they would understand Microsoft made some big manufactuing mistakes, but won't admit it.
and if u look xb1 S is having major problems too. I thank HITECHHATE78 for giving people an honest answer.

  14. Hey all, we do not recommend opening your controller and trying to replace any components. This would void any warranty on the controller. The best thing you can do is contact our Chat and Phone teams to see if the controller is still under warranty and
replace the controller if needed. Contact Us

    Hey Hi Tech,

Although on paper you would think it is simply a broken analog stick module, the coincidences with the August update and others having similar issues around this update, tend to make me think otherwise. I definitely appreciate your long history of problems
you mention in your other post, and am sorry for all the grief it has caused. We just want to game, right?? Controller right stick drift after update :) Big thanks to you and Nelomelo for speaking up and bringing these issues to the forefront!

Also, the latest console update on 9/15 (10.0.14393.1058) didn't seem to fix any of my issues. But that could be because there was no controller firmware update yet for my older black one. Will continue to wait...and not update my white controller for
the foreseeable future. Not happening! LOL

Hey ya, Mr. Mascot...I've had my controller for many years now...so no warranty to worry about. Maybe others could do a replacement though, if within their 90-day warranty period.
