Controller regularly disconnects/reconnects on PC

Is anyone else having a problem where the controller will just turn off then back on? This happens while connected to the PC with the USB cable. Happens when the controller is stationary, so I'm sure its's not a bad physical connection. I've also tried different
USB ports on the computer.

Xbox one controller can't reconnect after it's disconnected once on PC.

I have an Xbox one elite controller that I'm using on my win 10 PC. I've got it connected through a dongle but everytime the controller disconnects it can't reconnect no matter what I try. I always have to reboot my PC for it to work again.

When I try to reconnect the controller again it just flashes a few times then goes to the solid glow that means it's connected and then after a second the glow disappears and it's disconnected again.

I have a 360 controller that's been working fine on my PC for the past 2 years. I recently got an xbox one controller and it's been disconnecting/reconnecting at random times.

 

Have you downloaded and installed the drivers for Xbox One controllers on PC?

If you have an Xbox One, could you use that to update the controller's firmware (Settings>System>Update Controller)?

I've already done that. It shows up as an Xbox One Controller in Device Manager, I've also manually downloaded the drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled for safe measure. The controller still randomly turns off and on.
