Controller not working even via USB

I have got it to work via usb for a few seconds and when i select a tile on the dashboard it makes the select noise and the tile depresses to say i've selected it but it doesn't actually select it. It started about a hour before today's update when i was
connected wireless when it just kept disconnecting every minute and gradually got worse to the point it don't connect at all now wireless. I was part of preview program but i opted out of that about 3-4 weeks ago. I've contacted support who haven't really
got a clue and told me to post on here. I'm not very happy especially with my favorite game coming out Tuesday.

P.s i've tried all the ways of reconnecting controller and resetting console etc.

Also having this same issue with the same controller.

Running the correct version of windows that should support the controller, and continued to receive the error even after connecting the controller via USB.

Also had it working for a bit before it decided not to work.

 

Are all Xbox One Controllers going to be Wireless?

Yes, but also no.

Every Xbox One controller is wireless. However, when you plug it in via USB it becomes wired and sends the signal via wire instead of wireless (while also charging batteries, if you are using the charge-pack - or in the case of your question, it's using the power via cable instead of the batteries).

This is in contrast to how Xbox 360 controllers work. X360 has both wireless and wired. An X360 wireless controller when plugged in via USB is still sending the signal wireless, but is getting power via the USB. This is why you can't plug an Xbox 360 wireless controller via USB into your computer and have it work, because the controller is still sending a wireless signal.

This makes the Xbox One controllers great for both Xbox One and PC gaming, because you don't need to buy a 'wired' controller for it to work on the PC, you can just plug it in via USB and it'll send the signal via USB instead. I'm really glad Microsoft did this.

 

If you've done a hard reset and it worked prior to the update, let's wait for an official response.

Yes but they could connect via usb mine won't even do that now, anyway iv' managed to try another controller and it's fine. So the question is now is am i covered under waranty for a replacement ?

 

Update, iv'e spoken to customer support and they are sending me a brand new day 1 controller, i have to send mine first and they will send a new one when they receive mine. Should take about 2 weeks, iv'e bought a new controller which i was planning on getting
a 2nd controller anyway. Big thumbs up for Microsoft from me for good service.

P.s i was lucky it happened now as it's nearly a years old.

 

Just a quick one. Do i get 1 year warranty on the new controller when that arrives? I forgot to ask them that on the phone.

 

You'd have to ask them. I do not know
