Controller left stick not working properly after update to firmware 5.9.2709.0

I just purchased a brand new controller from Best Buy in July. I started my XBox after about 3 weeks. I was prompted to update the Firmware on my controller. It is now at firmware version 5.9.2709.0.

I started Warframe and noticed that the cursor kept going up for a while after letting go of the left thumb stick. Same when going down with the left stick. It does not drift, just sticks for longer than it should. Left and right movements are perfect. I then went to settings to test the buttons. Every button and direction works great except up and down. They both work, but stay active for a second or two after releasing.

Did something go wrong with the update? I have tried applying the update, but it is already updated. I have tried plugged in as well as wireless. It behaves the same. As this is a new controller with less than 100 hours on it and it was working fine before the firmware update, I would like some help to resolve this issue. As of right now, it is difficult to play anything.

Accessories are warranted for 90 days. As it is not possible to redo the update, if it is still under warranty, I recommend you open a replacement order.

The stick is probably not centred properly.

This was an extremely common problem with the 360 controllers. Every single non-white 360 controller I have owned does this.

Unfortunately if they are not centred properly they will need replacing.

If you haven't done so already you could try updating the controller firmware to see if that helps.

You can update the firmware by connecting a USB cable to the controller then going into the settings app then going to devices and find the option to update the controllers firmware

I'm sorry to hear you're having a problem with your controller. Here are a few things you can try:

1. Check the controller's calibration. Make sure that the analog sticks are properly calibrated and that the left stick is registering input when moved to the left.

2. Clean the controller. Clean the analog sticks with a soft cloth or a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol to remove any debris.

3. Update the controller's firmware

If none of these steps work, I'm afraid it is already a mechanical issue so it may be worth considering getting a replacement controller.

So tonight I borrowed a mates controller who has not updated his firmware (as he does not know how to).

My firmware on two controllers experiencing the problem is: 1.1.2228.0

The firmware on a friends controller not experiencing the problem is: 1.1.279.2

Just to illustrate on the home screen using the analog stick moving left to right on the old firmware controller it is very responsive.

On the controllers with the latest firmware every 5-6 movement left or right it has a slight pause almost as though the xbox one is buffering the controller input...
