Controller lagging/disconnecting unexpectedly

Xbox One X 1 TB running OS 10.0.17763.3066

After the November updates, I noticed my controller would randomly begin to lag during gameplay. The symptoms are:

-Audio lag/distortion

-Controller input lag/loss

-Controller disconnect

It usually happens in that order. The audio will begin to distort, then my analog stick inputs will begin to lag (slow to begin movement or will continue movement after returning to center), and finally result in my controller disconnecting altogether. The
power light on the controller never goes off or starts flashing, but whatever game I am playing senses the controller has lost connection and gives me their warning ("Please reconnect a controller" or whatever variation).

I have tried multiple different controllers, several of them brand new, as well as using a Micro USB cable and still experience the same issue. I have determined it is not a controller hardware issue. I sit only a foot or so away from my Xbox.

Anyone experiencing this issues and/or have a solution to fix it? I currently cannot play any FPS games because of the controller lag and the audio problems ruin any sort of gameplay.

Same problem for me. Controllers keep disconnecting. It happens if other people use wifi for game or netflix. Wifi interferes with the controllers connection. Very bad. Next time a PlayStation.

Thanks for reaching out to us here on the Forums!

After reading about this situation, it does seem that it may be the console and not the controllers itself since you tried multiple controllers.
I would suggest trying a
Soft Factory Reset.
If this is due to a software issue then the soft reset or even a full factory reset would help best.

Side Note:
It is
very important to make sure you know the primary email/password to the account before removing
it from the console.

To check the email being used with the gamertag, go to
Settings > Account > sign-in, security & passkey;
in middle column at the top it will say "show on home"
if it is checked it will rotate from gamertag and email on homepage. If it is not check marked, it will show in this box.

Last night I tried connecting my controller directly to the console(with USB). Then I started streaming to my PC using the Xbox App Beta(Version 22.22.28020.00000). I played for about 2hrs, and I didn't see any major lag. There was a little stuttering every
once in a while, but not as bad as before. I then disconnected the controller from the USB(it was still connected to the console wirelessly), and I played for another 2hrs. I still didn't see any major lag; just the occasional stuttering every so often. Then
I proceeded to disconnect the controller completely from the console, and I connected it directly to my PC(with USB). I played for maybe about an hour, and the games seemed to run worse. I didn't see any major lag, but there was a lot more stuttering. I wasn't
able to continue playing to see if the major lag would appear again, but it seemed like it would've if I had played longer. So, it does seem like having the controller connected to the console directly while streaming runs better.

Tonight I was going to try connecting my controller to my PC, and stream until the major lag shows up again. I will then disconnect the controller from the PC, and connect it directly to the console; I will see if the lag persists after doing that. I will
post an update either later tonight or tomorrow morning on what happens.

So, I connected my controller to my PC and streamed for about 2hrs until the lag showed up. Then I disconnected the controller from the PC and connected it wirelessly to the console. The lag did continue, but there was no stuttering. The lag spikes seemed
to happen almost exactly every 5 minutes. The game would lag for about a minute, and then stop for 5 minutes; then it would start lagging again. I then connected the controller to the console through USB, and the lag seemed to go away. Then I connected back
to the PC and I was able to play for about another hour before the lag returned. So, it seems like when you connect the controller directly to the console with USB, then there is no lag. Also, the lag only impacts the games themselves; not the dashboard. When
the games are lagging I would hit the Guide Button, and the dashboard would have no lag whatsoever.

I had some lag when I played split screen but I disconnected the controller then turned it back on and it was fine so good luck
