Controller Issues: Possible update or repair needed

So I have had problems with my X1 controller randomly disconnecting from the console. Not dying, but just disconnecting. I checked and the battery life was all the way up on the controller, yet it randomly disconnects in the middle of gaming. I have talked
to a few friends with xbox ones and they have also had the same problem.

One weird thing is that when it disconnects, the light in the middle is still on, and hitting A, start, or the xbox button does absolutely nothing. When it disconnects I have to wait about 5-15 seconds to be able to do anything, then the xbox button light
flashes, then I am able to reconnect it. This occurs somewhat often and It is a real pain.

Also, I am using my Xbox on a desk with a small tv and I'm sitting only a couple of feet at most away from the console. I just got my X1 a couple of weeks ago and It seems this problem just started to occur in the last few days but my friends have had the
problem for as well.

I'm not sure if I have a defective controller or there is a problem with all of them, or perhaps there is a software issue between the console and the controller but I feel like it is not a coincidence that me and a few xbox live friends, living remotely
around the US, all have the same issue.

Very sorry to hear about the controller issues.

We would recommend going trying to
update the controller if you can get it to turn on with the USB cable attached to the console.

If you have a Windows 10 PC you might also try the
Windows 10 update steps.

If those options do not help with the issues then let's have you reach out to
chat or phone to request a repair or exchange.

Be sure to mention that the controller is the Sea of Thieves controller to ensure you get one back if an exchange is needed!

A lot of people are having this issue. No idea if its firmware related or headset adapter related.

I've considered returning my headset to try a new headset adapter but I am not sure if it's worth it.

No word from Microsoft and this is really starting to get annoying.

 

i have the same issue. Update didn't fix anything. Sent my console for repairs the same day before i threw it out the door. probably have to wait months to get it back. So frustrating.

 

Has anyone tried using your controller wired to see if it still disconnects I got a second controller after reading about this months ago although never had this issue

 

it's a firmware issue, Plug the controller in via USB and open settings, go to system and select "update controller". there's still a few niggles but it sorts most of the headset issues out.

It does not disconnect while it's wired as it works like any other USB controller and does not use the wifi connection. been playing with my controller plugged in and no batteries for days now

 

Mine is failing also when connected via USB (sometimes work, sometimes not)... returning it now!
