Controller Issues MODEL 1537

I just bought a bunch of what used to be retail display controllers for the Xbox One launch in 2013. They used to be hardwired and such so they wouldn't be stolen. Anyways, the retailers did something
to them but I can't figure out what. Basically, it only works when plugged in, putting batteries in doesn't even power it on and it can't connect/turn on unless its plugged in. I though it might be firmware they changed so I updated the controller, didn't
work. I have it popped open and am trying to compare it to my other 1537 and I cant seem to crack what they did to them. Help!

Some of the older controllers were not wireless and had to be connected to work.

Make a claim with Microsoft and they'll see you a refurbished working controller

Probably programmed to not work, or the circuit board is different in some way.

Hi, i don't know a lot about controller but could them be faulty from the daily constant use? If a controller is up and running for so long and never wireless it might have broken something in them. Or, they may be programmed as qoldqhost already
suggested so that, if they are stolen, they could not be used normally.

Thanks for reaching out to the forums. With display model controllers such as you have they are made strictly to be wired as a demo controller. There is no way of getting around that. Also as you have mentioned trying to self repair the controllers by opening
them up i will be locking this thread as it is against the
forum guidelines.
