Controller issue or other?

Got an issue with my xbox in that I need to press the A button several times before an "ok" is registered in menus etc. In game it doesn't seem to playing up.

Also when I need to type (search , passwords etc) as soon as search suggestions appear the first one is highlighted and when I try to navigate back to the letters the focus jumps straight back to the first
search suggestion making it impossible to type. Just to add to the fun, when I navigate through menus using arrows or thumbstick the selection jumps 2 places. I don't have a second controller to try so am wondering if this is controller related or other? I
can't even type in my wifi password to check for updates etc. I've googled it and found many similar incidents but they all seem to affect players within certain games. My issues are all around menu navigation and typing. Xbox One, original wireless controller
that came with the bundle.

perhaps smacking your controllers on anything when in a rage isn't to good for them...and idk how your xbox would be affected by you doing that to your controllers

Maybe the button is damaged....

Probably you need to buy a new controller if you dont have warranty

The button works fine in-game. Also using navigation to move across the keyboard does not involve rhe same button

Your router is kind of like your Xbox's puppet master. Your controller uses your upload speed off your router. Either try

settings> network> advanced settings> alt mac address> clear> restart.
Or try these steps
Factory reset , make sure you know your gamertag info and if you click keep games and apps you wont have to re download all your stuff.

See if that works.
