Controller inputs not being recognized by Xbox

Started running into issues a two days ago where my Xbox controller would have the solid light like it was connected, but my Xbox wouldn't respond to the inputs. The first time I noticed was when I had turned off my controller manually and would turn it
back on (light showing solid) but nothing would happen on any of the buttons. Had to hard reset the Xbox in order to do anything.

Then yesterday it started happening when the controller was connected and I was actively using it. Same thing where the light was connected but the Xbox wouldn't register any of my inputs. Had to hard reset again to do anything. Looked up a video where
it said that if it happens and you're able to press and hold the Xbox button and press Up then Right on the d-pad, your controller isn't the issue. After it happened again I tried this to see if it would reconnect, but it didn't

Hard reset the Xbox again and unplugged it for some time, controller worked for the hour that I was watching TV.

Today again it stopped working while it was on and was watching a show, light still steady but no inputs being recognized. Also tried connecting my other controller to see if it would work, but it was the same thing (solid light, no input). I'm wondering
if there's a problem with the receiver going out on the console itself. Going to try the other controller for the rest of the night and see if it locks up as well.

Somewhat related note: The sync button on the side of the Xbox doesn't work when this is happening (which makes me think more that it's on the console side)

Also madesmade that the controller firmware was up to date.

Up for any input/troubleshooting tricks

Great question!

The controller needs to recognize direct input to stay on, leaving the button pressed under a piece of tape, as an example would not qualify as input therefore triggering the battery saving function of the controller.

I, too, have the Microsoft Force Feedback 2 joystick. In MSFS2020 it recognizes it in the Controls menu but just shows a generic shadow image with a white question mark "?". I also cannot set any controls to it. The game doesn't seem to recognize any
inputs from the joystick. Very bummed.

I went to the internet and found several sites explaining that it could be done, and how to do it (obviously those did not work for me)... I must have gotten the wrong impression.... I thought that an Xbox 360 guitar would work on xbox companion. Its weird that windows recognized the 360 guitars as controllers but the xbox companion did not. when i go to buy a new controller, how can i recognize it as one that has x-input ?
