Controller froze and disconnected during the controller update, won't turn on anymore

I recently got the Xbox One Armed Forces headset. My controllers needed updates to be compatible with it. My Day One controller updated just fine, but my Titanfall controller disconnected (with a full battery charge from the Microsoft Xbox One Charge Kit
with Battery) at 5% and then refused to turn on again.

I took the battery out and tried another one, and then actual brand new batteries, but the controller absolutely refuses to turn on again. If I hold down the guide button the light will faintly flicker. It won't turn on or connect with my console with a
USB cable, either.

My controller worked fine before the manual update and now won't turn on at all. It's less than a year old. Any tricks to getting it to work? I even tried registering it when I purchased it, but xbox.com refuses to acknowledge the serial number no matter
how many times I typed it in, so I don't know if it will be covered by warranty.

Xbox one controller

Xbox one controller won't turn on. I was playing a game and then the controller just disconnected and now it won't even turn on. Tried all of the suggestions on the support page none have worked. Any ideas how to fix? It's the controller with the 3.5mm jack.

For the random disconnects (and possibly the battery usage) make sure you've got the latest firmware in your controller. Connect the controller with a USB cable to be sure you won't have a disconnect during the update process.

Before the latest dashboard update, there was a simple way to defrag the hard disk: by turning on the console with the controller, and holding RB, RT and Y (soon after the controller is recognized during the intro logo).

Doing so, the console would restart before the dashboard appeared on screen, and the Hard Disk is defragged.

Now this method doesn't work anymore:

if you turn on the console with the controller, the Xbox 360 won't recognize the controller until the dashboard is fully loaded. The problem is that, since the console recognizes the controller so late, you can't do the defrag anymore.

I didn't find any other way to defrag the hard disk.

Good update. Turning the console on via controller is snappier, but I did experience a controller disconnect yesterday during game play. (I did update the controller firmware.) Doesn't seem to be a battery issue - no low battery warning and still plenty
of rumble. It happens to me so rarely that it's not a huge issue, but I was kind of hoping this update would fix that.

What error do you see? Is your controller disconnecting?

I noticed on my wife's console that if the controller turned off during the update it would fail and restart. So if your controller/console sleeps when it fails just keep nudging the right analogue stick to keep them both awake until the update completes.
